Thinking back about my relationship with my combat vet ex and how he really liked praise and compliments.
I understand we all like compliments and praise. I love how my vet used to always compliment me and make feel beautiful. Now im just happy he still communicates with me.
I noticed throughout our relationship at times praise was really important to my vet. What started as a compliment to my vet about me telling friends hey "Im dating an infantry guy who was in the Army!!" was then my vet asking what their response was. Everytime I told him that I bragged about him he wanted to know what people's response was. That seemed so important to him! I feel like he enjoyed feeling validated and praised when I told other vets or le guys I worked with.

Today I told him an intimate compliment on text. I havent said one compliment in over a week to him.
He answered back asking me if he was amazing. Of course I told him he was the most amazing and he never repsonded anything back. So i just give him space and not text anything else.
Sometimes I would tell him other compliments how gorgeous he is, how amazing he is and he would downplay it like he didnt believe in himself.

Im wondering if with PTSD, even depression is there a need to feel praised, valued, or feel wanted by your supporter or carer? Does it feel good when others value you when you don't see it in yourself or believe in yourself?!

I write things on our bedroom mirror, so when he reads it, he can see how I see him. I leave it there for a couple days.
He had a couple down days so today I wrote.
You are beautiful, kind, compassionate
and fierce . I love you.
