Prazosin question

Hi,

I started Prazosin a few weeks ago. Mine is to help me sleep, not for nightmares. I could not get through sleep cycles on generic Zoloft. After first day was okay.. Only on 1mg.

I have found myself with a lot less energy. And also the back of my head where the reptilian / emotional areas of the brain. I have felt off for days. But it could be from some bad emotional flashbacks as I process the trauma. I cannot tell what it is from- the head pain.

Does anyone know, could not find, would it be okay to skip a night of the Prazosin. I am on the lowest dose.. and well doctor is hard to reach..

Thanks

I skipped some nights because I was really sensitive to it. I eventually came off it for good. It’s not a medication that only works after it builds up in your system, at least from what I know, as it can help from day 1 and if you’re on a very low dose with once a day dosing, it doesn’t have a chance of building up much. The half life is very short and people who use it for blood pressure issues take it throughout the day.

I only take it when I feel i need it because of it lowering my blood pressure to dangerous lows. It isn't a medication you have to take daily like Zoloft is.

I frequently don't take it if I need to wake up insanely early, or if I forget (which is much less frequent), but I've never had a problem doing so.

I too was on the lowest dose, but ended up going off of it with my doctor's approval because of the headaches and nervousness, even though he said he'd never had anyone else ever complain these things from Prazosin. FYI, I am super duper sensitive to all meds/supplements, scents, and most foods, so I'm no longer surprised when I have paradoxical reactions. I attribute my sensitivities to my short fuse for adrenaline rushes. I think what happened is when the alpha receptors in my brain got blocked by the Prazosin, my body freaked out by producing more adrenaline to make up for the blockage. I talked to my pharmacist and she said it's possible. All I know is I really, really wanted it to work, but it was back to the drawing board for me. Hope you can figure out a way to make it work for you because wouldn't a good night's sleep feel like winning the lottery?

I actually "sleep" pretty well with it. Just my head feels weird. Psychiatrist finally wrote and said I can stop it and see if it helps with fatigue.. if it won't be a problem, I could

She then asked, if next message if I had hit my head, and it turns out I had, playing with my son. Now the headaches make sense. Probably have had a concussion. You know you have PTSD when you are happy its a concussion and not some new stuff from PTSD..

Ha! Yes, I know the feeling well, that of being delighted to find out it has a physical basis instead of more PTSD stuff raining down on you. Congrats on your concussion...
