Prozasin

Well it's weird. I know I've had dreams, but I don't remember them at all and I'm not beating my poor fiancee up in the middle of the night! But I have to pee all the time and I feel a bit nauseous but I'm hoping that will pass :)

After my body adjusted to each dosage increase, it has become a life saver!!

I had the nausea as well as some other side effects(but I'm just one of those lucky people who get them all) So glad it's helping you to get some rest.

Tonight I start a new medication for sleep/nightmares. Has anyone had any luck with prozasin?[/Q...

Hi Uselessdreamer. I have been on Prazosin for about 3 months now. To start with I was very dizzy, but I eventually adjusted. And started on a low dose, with gradual increase. It is actually a medication used for high blood pressure, and I already have low blood pressure. So that probably has not helped with the dizziness. But I do find that it has helped with my nightmares. It is a drug being used successfully now for ptsd-related sleep disturbances. I eventually got to quite a high dose, but wanted to reduce it recently. It definitely made a difference. As soon as I reduced the dosage, I started having nightmares again. In my experience it has been a very successful treatment to the worst of nightmares. For me it also helps with tachychardia (very high pulse rate due to anxiety) . but for me the problem I have is the lowering of my already very low Blood Pressure. So I just need to monitor the dosage very closely. Other than that, I have found the side effects to be minimal.

What dose was effective for you?

Hi Maud. I started slowly and worked up the dosage over a couple of weeks. Started with half a mg, then worked slowly up to 3mg taken at night just prior to bed. However I found that 3mg was lowering my blood pressure too much resulting in too much dizziness, so my GP advised me to cut it back to 2mg. It seems to be effective for me at that rate. Everyone is different though, some find that 1mg is effective, and others may need as much as 5-10mg. The dosage for Prazosin is a much lower rate for ptsd related sleep issues, than what is used for the treatment of High blood pressure. Hope this helps.
