I cannot live without my Prazosin. It has stopped my nightmares and I can't go one night withou...
Great news ladyghosthunter. I must admit that when my script ran out and I was refusing to go back to the Dr to get a new script, that my nightmares escalated badly again. But when I read info on Prazosin on the internet it does say that something like 90% of people find that once they stop taking the meds, the nightmares return. So I think it is definitely a long term option. Really pleasing to hear that it is so successful for you, and I hope it will remain so for me too. I so badly need sleep.

I was put on prazosin when I was in treatment, and it worked wonders for taking my nightmares away! Sadly, my blood pressure dropped dangerously low. Luckily I was in a hospital environment so I had my vitals checked every day and the doctors caught my low blood pressure before anything worse than fainting happened. Just be careful on this med, make sure you get your blood pressure checked.
In terms of nightmares, though, I hope it works as well for you as it did for me. Sending kind thoughts your way.

Prazosin worked really well for me for several years. Eventually, it stopped working for me and instead of increasing the dose (can't remember what it was now), my psych switched me to clonidine, also a BP med which does the same thing and works great. Just FYI for the future in case Prazosin stops working for you at some point, too, know there's an alternative. I also have low blood pressure, so can't jump out of bed anymore, but that's so not a deal-breaker :-). Best wishes, Dreamer.

Prazosin worked well for me for a few nights. I wouldn't say that it made my nightmares go away. I slept more deeply which was good, but I still woke up from nightmares, feeling depressed, the next morning. It calmed me down a lot, much like a sedative. So overall, I'd say I've had luck with it. I liked the feeling. But after two months, my body got used to it and it was useless to me and no longer worked at all.
