Women with post-traumatic stress disorder are nearly twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes compared with women who don't have PTSD, according to new research. The longitudinal cohort study provides the strongest evidence to date of a causal relationship between PTSD and type 2 diabetes.

That's just bizarre. Especially as they ruled out the usual suspects:

"On the other hand, smoking, diet quality, alcohol intake, and physical activity did not explain the association."

Would seem to possibly indicate metabolizing sugars happens differently under stress than previously thought. That or the poor little islets of langerhan are more susceptible to stress cocktails than most organs, maybe? Dunno. Interesting.

That's a proper pool of participants they collected over the years.

I wonder if my becoming hypoglycemic was connected to the emergence of my full range of symptoms in my teens rather than my changing diet (my diet has normalized more now and I continue to have these issues).

I have known for a long time that stress affects blood sugar, but I never thought there might more specifically be a link with PTSD.

Read up on the nhs site, here in the UK and it says that severe mental health conditions such as depression, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder sufferers who take medication for it are in the list of people who have a high risk of developing type2 diabetes......so this does make sense.

Stress also has a negative effect on Cholesterol. I eat No processed foods or Animal products and my Cholesterol intake is Zero but my tests come back higher than I'd like to see.

that's interesting......im the same with my cholesterol and don't understand it . I eat one meal a day, no processed food and very little animal fat.

Fascinating. Long-term breastfeeding (5-7+ years) substantially lowers your risk of diabetes and cancer (and other things) and I wonder how crossing the streams on prevention/causing diabetes would work. Neat! Bodies are so fascinating.

I always have borderline low blood sugar. Some day I should figure out what that means.

Regarding cholesterol I've read studies that claim cholesterol intake and high cholesterol levels are not Linked.

Yes new evidences pointed out a strong linked between PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and type 2 diabetes in women. PTSD is a disorder of anxiety that grows after living through or viewing a hazardous event. People suffering with this disorder might feel strong stress, suffer from flashbacks etc. It put deep effects on brain and body function, thus it’s important to have essential diagnose and treatment early.
