I have limited this to the few popular places discussed. This is a public poll and your choices can be seen by all. If you are not planning on attending, then please do not vote.
Turquoise (Providenciales) ClubMed
From all research thus far, this seems the most flexible and cheapest solution of all the above, without sacrificing comfort, style and things to do. Even though it is slightly further from the Bahamas coming out of the US, it is cheaper accommodation at a high class with more direct flights available, which means cheaper and less flying time regardless from where in the world you come. You can stay a night or weeks, there are no restrictions or limits with this ClubMed.
Columbus Is (Rum Cay) ClubMed
The only problem with this option is that you have only one choice with timings and flights, as you must book in weekly periods. Everyone enters on the same day, everyone leaves the same day of the week. They are a cyclic resort and process all incoming / outgoings on one specific day only. This means you cannot book for a night or two, 10 nights, etc. Reasonable still for price, though more expensive than other solutions. All-in-one packages only, being you must fly onto the island as part of the package. There tends to be much less flexibility with this option for connecting flights, especially some of the stop-over times.
Nassau / Paradise Is.
The capital of the Bahamas. It has some extremely expensive accommodation, and also some really cheap accommodation. It is the busiest of all locations and apparently has quite a high crime rate for theft. Sits you in the midst of all the action though, good shopping, drinking, partying, swimming, etc. This allows total flexibility on where each person chooses to stay, eat, how they get their, how long they stay, etc etc.
IMO, all three are very viable options and all of which we are certainly happy to stay upon for our holiday regardless which one trumps majority.
Our Approximate Plans
Depending on location, we may fly direct to the destination or we may stay overnight somewhere in the US. We plan on having approximately 7 days on the island of choice, and on our exit, we plan to visit LA for a day or two, thus anyone on that side of the US who isn't attending, we can organise an afternoon get together with dinner, etc. All flights from Australia go through LAX. If Turquoise is the destination, then we will likely fly direct to Turquoise as great flight packages are available for that location, being direct from LAX taking only a few hours. We spend little time in changeover then and arrive on the island in less than 24hrs of travel. Return though, we plan on having a chill-out for a day or two in LA, having a little look, catchup if members are around that area and rest before the flight home.
