Recommend a Good Software/Malware Uninstaller?

I am about to throw my computer under a bus.
I downloaded "cyberdefender" because it was "free" to scan my computer to find malware. Well, not only is it not truly free, it refuses to uninstall and the so-called 'tech support" demand a ton on personal information before they will tell me how to uninstall their "free" software. They can kiss my grits.

So I downloaded Adaware to get rid of the cyberdefender. Second big mistake. It's supposed to be free also, but it really isn't. Had a hell of a time uninstalling that shit. See a pattern?

I need a strong drink.

Does anybody know of a truly really definitely freeware or shareware program that will really honestly uninstall cyberdefender and, really, anything I want it to uninstall, with no bullsht? I am losing patience.

I can't recommend an uninstaller, but I can recommend good anti spyware, and registry cleaners....I use them myself with no problems...

glarys.com malwarebytes is another good program. superantispyware is good too, and eusing registry cleaner is really good. Then there is threatfire.....

I used to use adaware, but didn't like there new program.

Have you gone to add and remove programs in your control panel? (I am assuming you use windows) If you do, then you should be able to remove it from there with no problems.....

Uninstalling a software cannot be done by another software... you must uninstall a software through your OS. Adaware, etc, they scan and uninstall little things that shouldn't be there, but are really a game to get you to pay for the premium package. My advice... there is no such thing as a total allround package that is free.

ESET (Nod32) is the #1 virus software and has been for near a decade now. When you have finished with all the rubbish, Norton, etc, all absolute garbage that is too busy trying to look good instead of doing a good job stopping virus and malware. If you want to stop things happening on your computer in the first place, buy ESET Nod 32 and you won't have any more issues.

I believe they even have an extra version to check those issues you are talking about, being once you have them on your system. There really is so much garbage out there, most of it is actually spyware itself. Not worth it. Buy a good solid, proven anti-virus, anti-spam solution as ESET Nod 32 and you will end all these issue from occurring in the first place. Scan your system with it, get rid of all the crap, done.

Do a complete computer clean, dump all software you do not know what it does, if you need it you can always reinstall it. Clean caches, the lot. Defrag, ESET, you should never have another computer malware issue again.

AVG has a download page of viral cleaners, which are atleast from a recognized anti-virus provider. http://www.avg.com/virus-removal

Free AVG version... absolute bare basics, not even close to ESET, but free and it does work for most things. It does tend to let browser issues through though from my findings: http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

Yes, but the GD software that I want to remove doesn't show up in the list! I can't uninstall what is not listed, so I learned that cyberdefender attached itself to something in Windows startup (very clever). Assholls.

I will seek it, buy it, and use it if I can find it. I have never heard of this software. I did download the free AVG, but it demanded that I switch my browser and toolbar to Yahoo, which I don't want to do. I had to fight with it to uninstall it too. I could not have AVG without Yahoo automatically, which I don't want. Of course, the advertisement for AVG didn't tell me up front that I had to let them change everything to Yahoo as part of the deal.

Thank you both. If anyone else wants to impart some enlightenment, please do so.

Odd... I have used AVG on systems where people wanted a free solution, never having to change to Yahoo or any such thing. Anything that wants to install is typically available to not have... you just have to find it. The International laws on this are very clear, in that anything released with such an attachment, must be able to be turned off, not installed, etc. Microsoft thought they could get away with this with IE... they lost. Hence why IE is now an option and can be uninstalled without issue.

2quilt,

Have you checked under msconfig/startup yet to see if this cyberdefender is listed there? If it is, and it is checked I would uncheck it, so that it can't load at startup. That's not a fix, but at least it's something to start with.

I have used Spysweeper Antivirus, by Webroot for about 4-5 years now, it has built in anti spyware also. I have NEVER had a problem with it at all, and I have never ever had a virus in all of the years I have had a computer. Spysweeper cost $50 for the first year, and then I think $70 for the next 2 years. I also use the other programs I mentioned, because 1 program alone can never catch everything that is out there. But Spysweeper is my only antivirus program, as you can only run 1 at a time.

I wish you luck with this......

Usually when you download something and they attach a new toolbar or whatever, it because when you are going through the initial setup there is the usual agreement box, and at the bottom of it, there is a clause about installing this toolbar. It is ALWAYS already checked as Yes, I agree. You have to UNCHECK it if you do not want it to be installed.......
