Returning To Studies: How To Build And Maintain Confidence And Motivation?

Okay I did the two x 1 drawing sessions. I enjoyed the first one quite a lot.

I think I might have put too much pressure on myself because as soon as I finished I wanted to do two hours more. Perhaps I need to keep at a reasonable pace.

Then I felt lonely and got weepy. I don't know why as I had a good day. I met my study goals.

So I went to classes today and they were good.

As I had a bout of loneliness last night I went for some exercise before classes to discharge my energies and that worked well for me. I also exercised after classes and that was good too. It helps to regulate my emotions.

I realise that I need to do at least two hours of drawing a day. I left my homework until the day before and that didn't work for me. I needed more time to think and draw.

So my goal is to get to a point where I can make art 4 hours a day, study science two hours a day and write one hour a day. So I hope to be able to do that by June. I will keep up with my 5 minute study sessions though as they get me moving and thinking.

Another guy in my class spent about 30 hours on a drawing and it was stupendous. So something I realised was that I have to make the time and give myself the time rather than doing things at the last moment.

So I have to step outside of PTSD dissociation and thinking and actually do stuff right away and every day.

Sounds like you are really working hard to create a new routine! That's great!

I find I sometimes feel lonely and weepy after a good day too. Wonder what that's about...

Glad you could move forward toward your goals!

I went to classes today. I went to a class tonight. I am keeping up with things. I did an extra drawing last week.

I haven't done my 5 minute study sessions for a bit but I will start on them again tomorrow.

I can do this!

HI MSspock

Routine is very important in study. It give time for study and time for yourself without getting over whelmed by each.

It is also important that realistic short term achievable goals are also part of this routine so it gives you something to work towards each time.

By achieving these goals, medium and long term ones will also be achieved.

By setting short term goals it helps with motivation and the achievement of these goals helps with your confidence.

It is also very important though to sort out something to do in between your routine study times.

If you focus only on your routine and studies you might feel empty or lost when you are not doing them as you have not planned anything other than the studies to do.

Plan and take time between your studies to do something else that can be creative, restful or exciting or new. That way you will have a good healthy balance.

Best wishes
Saffy :)

Thanks for that input saffy!

I am trying to balance with exercise, social, cleaning and other activities.

I want to do my seven 5 minute study sessions today. This will lead up to my goal of being able to make art 4 hours a day, study science 2 hours a day and write 1 hour a day.

Since I started this I have been doing 2 hours drawing a day so that is getting me on my way.

So back to the 7 five minute study sessions!

Thanks the feedback is heartening. I have quite got back in to the swing of doing the 7 five minute study sessions but I am drawing for two hours a day yesterday, today and hopefully tomorrow.

I lost my glasses four weeks ago so that is a priority to get some more.

But I am moving closer to getting it together.

I feel hopeful.
