Hey all, it's been a while since i've posted here. Here is some background:
I'm a carer for my ex bf; an Iraq/Afghanistan vet, who has symptoms of ptsd and has not gotten any help yet. It's been going on for a couple of years now, and even though he has admitted that he has "issues" as he put it, he still won't get any help. I do realize that he has to want to do this on his own, and until then it'll be a bumpy road. He doesn't share much with me, but when he does, it's very vague and then never talked about again. He mentioned ghosts....
I also just recently was told by my best friend that she was raped about a month ago. I'm the only person she has told and she told me she trusts me completely. She opens up to me a lot about what she feels. She always contacts me when she's angry, upset, in a fit of rage, or just plain sad. I think she feels comfortable talking to me...she also mentioned ghosts...
My ex told me he hears weird things in his home...lots of banging, doors slamming shut, and he hears music being played. But he does not see anything, he only hears it. He told me he thinks his mind is just playing tricks on him, and he just passes it off as nothing. But he does get a bit freaked out by it all. He never talks about it anymore. When i asked him about my best friend and the ghost deal, he told me she's hallucinating and needs proffessional help. Is he in serious denial here?? He passes off what he hears as nothing, yet he told me she went through major trauma and now she's hallucinating and needs help.
My best friend told me she sees ghosts all the time, and it's always at night. They come up to her while she lays in bed and they whisper in her ears saying her name. They also pace up and down her bedroom, and they look at her with "scary eyes" as she has said. She said if they're not in her room, then they're in the bathroom which is next door to her bedroom, and she can hear them talking in there. She said she hates it, and she's the only one that can see them. She said they make so much noise in the house at night, and they don't leave her alone. She said they never threaten her, but they just always come around and don't leave her alone, and don't let her sleep. She tells me she's not crazy, and she doesn't know what the "f*ck" they want from her? She always tells me not to tell anybody that she sees and hears these ghosts. She knows i wouldn't tell anyone.
My question is...is there a relation between the two? Are these hallucinations?? Is this common in ptsd? If so, could somebody please explain why this happens? Is there a name for this? Will it ever go away?
And lastly, is there anything i can do? I do listen whenever one of them talks to me..i always listen and i never judge. I have suggested they both seek some proffessional help, but i left it as an option for them. I never push them at all. I understand they have to want the help.
Any opinions? TIA.
