I was told that I have "sensory sensitivity"...sometimes called "sensory processing disorder".

Has anyone heard of this?

Is this a normal part of PTSD?

Can someone help me find more information about this disorder and it's treatment?

Thank you in advance,

Some folks with ADHD are very sensitive to sensory input -- clothes itch, lights are too bright and sounds are too loud, everything is just too much, too overwhelming. Try wrapping yourself up tight in something super comfy but snug (a blanket burrito), turn off/down the lights, and decompress for 30 minutes. Or try a sensory deprivation flotation tank (although that's actually worse for some people!)

Is it possible to have sensory processing disorder but not experience symptoms all the time? Sometimes I am alright but other times everything gets too loud and garbled and my ears hurt really badly if I can't get away from it. The high contrast of light and dark at night, eg. cars coming the other way, can feel overwhelming. Sometimes I can't stand being touched - not in the same way I can't stand it in trauma-related instances, but even a light touch on my shoulder or arm, feels like I'm one giant raw nerve. But other times I am okay.
