The memory thing is really tough. I can so relate to the posts in this thread.

I appreciate the Moderators being so very helpful in letting you know the rules via sending you an email and where to find stuff. It sets you up for success as you get given clear guidelines. It helps jog my memory as well.

I am so happy to see this thread! I thought I was losing it because my memory is so bad. I forget what I am talking about in the middle of conversations. I don't remember conversations happening. I black out often and cannot remember going to bed. I too can ask someones name only to forget within seconds. It has gotten so bad, I try not to ask questions so I wont look like I forgot. I think the people around me are starting to worry about it or think I have just become a complete idiot.Thank you for posting this thread and for all the replies. It is so nice to not feel like a nutcase for a second!

Thank goodness for this site and thread. I just joined because of it and am going to recommend a friend of mine read through here. I have been to neurologists, psychologists, and psychiatrists trying to find out why my memory is getting worse. If it weren't for my housemates, I would probably forget my brain is there. They encourage me to try new things, and help remind me of them when I draw a total blank. Which is sometimes, more frequently now-a-days, happens a lot.

I forget I am vacuuming in the middle of doing it sometimes and go feed the chickens only to find that I have already fed them. When I get back in the house I start doing dishes or something else. :banghead: I totally forget the vacuum cleaner is still in the middle of the rug in the living room until someone mentions, "Why is the vacuum in the middle of the floor?"

I am still trying to find ways to remember new things and everyday activities. It is kind of hit and miss as to what works and doesn't. My concentration is.....oh look at the kitty chasing the squirrel.....what was I doing? :whistling: That is actually how each task is for me everyday. Now I know why I am not so big on gambling. I do it everyday with whether or not I will remember things. I just lost my psychiatrist a few days ago thanks to healthcare changes. Now I don't know how long it will take for me to find another again. Thanks to the information I have found on this site I will have a much better idea of how to approach dealing with life now.

Thank you everyone for letting me know this is something that happens to others with PTSD. I know I am not alone.

This issue of a "holey" memory has been plaguing me lately. I have difficulty remembering appointments, and like some of the other folks here, I've tried to get into the habit of putting everything in the calendar on my phone. However, if one forgets to look at it, it doesn't help! I had one psychiatrist who charged for patients who missed appointments. Seems kind of counterproductive, when the disorder he was supposed to be treating included poor short-term memory as one of its symptoms. Now, another health care practitioner is doing the same thing. I don't mind paying the additional money, but it would be nice if people understood there is a reason I miss appointments, and that I'm doing the best I can. I'm hard enough on myself without outside help: forgetting stuff all the time makes one feel a little bit crazy.
