I've been off here for a while, my home was foreclosed on and we had to move and it is really rough living in temporary quarters with PTSD. My biggest problem now is inability to digest food, hypoglycemia, and hypertensive episodes.

I came across the hormone somatostatin and was surprised at how well it's actions matched my symptoms. This is from the attached document which is an etextbook at a university.

Somatostatin suppresses secretion of gastric acid and pepsin, lowers the rate of gastric emptying, and reduces smooth muscle contractions and blood flow within the intestine. Collectively, these activities seem to have the overall effect of decreasing the rate of nutrient absorption.

It also supresses secretion of growth hormone, insulin and many other hormones. It has been shown to be elevated in people with PTSD. However the research I have found so far seems to be focused on CRF (Corticotropin Release Hormone).

If you find yourself in a situation of prolonged unavoidable stress and have problems with your digestion, be sure to supplement the B vitamins especially thiamine. Many of the symptoms people are experiencing may be do to malabsorption/malnutrition of basic nutrients we tend to take for granted.

Interesting! I'll do a bit more research on it when I have some free time.
