What's In a Cigarette?
I so get what you're saying about smoking and smoking every 10-15 minutes. At one point for me, I was going through 2 cartons a week. Chain smoking and the cost(back then) was killing me. I can't imagine how anyone smokes with the cost so high. In Mass, a pack of Marlboro cost over $10, generics cost around $5-6 a pack. I used to drive to VT back then to buy mine as they were cheaper in Vt than in Mass. still a bit cheaper, but not by much. My sister buys generic and it cost her about $65 a carton. Unbelievable that people pay that much!!!!
I think when you speak of getting anxious, so you smoke.... Actually what your feeling isn't being anxious, it's actually a withdrawal symptom. People don't realize that withdrawal comes really fast after you've had a cig. I used to smoke for all the reasons you spoke of too. Even driving was one for me, I get in my car, and HAVE to light one. To this day, I sometimes reach into my pocketbook looking for a cig!!!!! DUH!!!!!
Wellbutrin might help you to quit also, it hits the pleasure center of the brain and reduces the urge. I wouldn't suggest Chantix because it can cause suicide tendency and extremely vivid dreaming. Something people with PTSD don't need more of....
The other thing... Don't know if you are aware that raising the head of your bed about 6 inches, with bricks or whatever, is helpful for sleeping with COPD. And eating smaller meals throughout the day instead of 3 big meals with help too. When you're full from a big meal, the stomachs puts pressure on the lungs making it more difficult to breath, so smaller meals help with that.
