I wonder how many of you have experienced something that seemed life threatening? Tell us how you survived.

As for me, I was visiting some friends yesterday and they were cooking supper, when their oven burst into flames and started making a horrible buzzing sound! It looked like fireworks going off inside of the oven (which has a glass door). Thankfully the circuit breaker flipped everything off, before the stove blew up. Meanwhile, we all ran for our lives!

A relative of theirs that we called came to check the unit out and said that we were very lucky that the circuit breaker worked, or the house would have burned down. When he examined the stove, the heating element in the oven had actually been burned so that a 2-3 inch section of it was GONE! In other words, the fire was hot enough to do that.

It took us all about an hour for our hearts to beat normally again and to be calmed down.

The burners on top of the stove also were affected, so obviously something was drastically wrong with that stove. They will be replacing it today.

So, what disaster(s) have you survived?

That sounds pretty terrible and I'm glad you survived. I've driven through very severe elements a variety of times where I was literally driving blind and couldn't see beyond two feet and couldn't pull over because I couldn't see well enough to know I wasn't hitting someone. I mean driving for up to half a minute completely blind. That's a lot of distance covered on the freeway. Thank God I made it through. Also someone almost ran me off the road on the freeway but God put peace over my mind so it actually didn't really bother me although it obviously should have. God is good long story short.

It’s odd how differently people react to stressors, because I grew up convinced that accidentally starting a fire in the kitchen was a rite of passage.

I’ve had some truly histerical moments in my life involving a kitchen and someone commenting, “Oh shit, that’s on fire!”
