The Landau Reaction To Anxiety And Trauma Reflex.

After many years of finally realising just how bad my anxiety can be and that I was actually having panic attacks I decided to do some research about it.

I also suffer with chronic back pain and prolapsed discs that have led to nerve damage and I had heard somewhere that the problem might be psychosomatic. I looked it up.

There is a link between the two. However it is discovering Landau response and Trauma reflex information that really interested me and made total sense about my behavioural responses to stress, which invariable led to and still affects my bad back.

Knowing this it made sense to search for more info on the landau response and see if there are self help options available. I felt it was at least worth a try. If it helps me cope better with stress that is a good thing but to help with the back as well is even better. :)

I wondered if anyone else had heard of this and/or can relate?

HI Mercy,

I am sorry for the delay in replying. :)

These are somatic reflexes that are uncontrollable when in a state of high anxiety or stress. :)

I found that for myself when my anxiety rises, say in starting a new job or being asked to do something for someone or being in a crowd I do not know, I tend to go into this flight fight response which makes me race around and very tense and also a combination of trying to escape and be ready to defend at the same time.

Even though I know I can do the job very easily I automatically go into this response. And have only just recognised it as a problem. Before I just thought that I might have made them look incompetent by doing the job fast but know I realise they back off through fear of my responses. Although I would never hurt anyone.

People generally find me really hard to work with and can fear me (although I am unaware of any agressiveness, feedback tells me they fear me) which then make me confused and untrusting of them because I cannot see it. Hope that makes sense.

At first I thought is was because I dissociated, and to a degree it is, but it also makes sense when I think they see someone totally different to who I think I am. When they mention this I am shocked. :)

I also feel that it is also correlated with high social anxiety.

I did a Liebowitz social anxiety scale (used by psychologists) and scored 104 out of 144 which indicated severe social anxiety.

I did some research about somatic responses and found the above. I just wondered if anyone else has heard or experienced this?

Best wishes

Actually just realised I have put the title as Landau response instead it should be Landau reaction to anxiety. :)

Sorry for any misunderstanding. :)

Thank you Witneys story :)

It would be good if you could post if you find anything and we can discuss further if you like? :)

Happy researching.
