Hello,

I am here so that I may support two very important people in my life. I love them both dearly and hope to help and understand them both as much as possible. One of them has PTSD because they were sexually assaulted and molested as a young child. The other has PTSD because they were enlisted in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Reading many of the posts on this forum has helped me understand and try to choose a road less traveled to help them cope with their lives and help me, help them and themselves.

Thank you all for your sincere words and stories of what it means to live with this from both sides of the fence. All of you are brave and wonderful people.

Hello Damask,

Welcome to the forums and hope you find answers of your questions here. Thank you for compliments for all of us. It's sweet from you. :)

In the short time that I have been here I have found more answers than I could have ever hoped for. Searching though medical web sites is informational only, there are very very few answers or discussions.
I only just now, today, realized that the mood swings / personality switches, were not only something that was happening but WHERE there were coming from!!! I am so very glad I found these forums!! :D

Amazing Damask! you are doing good :tup:

Yes, it's hard to know the source of any problems when anyone is suffering from PTSD. Real hard. You will have to work with sufferer to know the roots of those issues. Keep up the mojo!

@Damask Thank-you for coming here and realizing the above quote. For myself there has been a refusal by many to engage what-so-ever. Meeting a supporter like yourself, like so many supporters who come to this forum, re-invigorates my hope that one day my nearest and dearest will some day realize the same.

Laurie:hug:s if you accept them.

Thank you all for your responses and support. I can only hope that we all find such greatness in our day to day lives. Honestly a lot that I have read here brings me to tears and makes me both angry for your sorrows and so very thankful that those around me have such open hearts and minds. @Santa_Laurie in particular, I have to say I honestly do not understand how anyone can refuse to at least TRY to understand difficulties in those we care for. I hope that someday those that refuse to see the truth will turn around and find it in a sudden and enlightening epiphany.

We are all in this together, someone has to walk point, hopefully we can all teach each other how to do that.

@Damask Welcome to the forum!

lp them cope with their lives and help me, help them and themselves.

You have a great attitude and being encouraging and supporting is so helpful to those that are working on recovery. At the same time remember to take care of yourself and if there is one thing that I would tell a supporter is to please be careful what you personalize. For example when a person with PTSD pulls away, it isn't that they don't care or are angry, it can be because they are afraid of hurting someone or just overwhelmed by life.

@intothelight Thank you :). I don't know how to use the quote function, but what you said about people pulling away, is EXACTLY why I went looking for a helpful forum like this one. I knew there was something wrong, something misplaced and I couldn't put my finger on it. I asked too many questions about the wrong things and ended up being pushed away for a week. Then, miraculously, I had what I call a bold of lighting hitting me and suddenly I knew what was bothering me and had to research it. I first went to a friend who's husband is a sufferer and asked her about certain behaviors and she clarified and confirmed my suspicions. I knew I needed to educate myself more so here I am! :D

Welcome, @Damask. I wanted to say hi, and share this link with you - it's a great tutorial on how to use the quote function: Link Removed. It's a very useful feature, you should check it out.

I hope you continue to find the site supportive and informative for you.
