Too Hydrated?

I find that I am never really thirsty during the day and so I will force myself to drink maybe some milk or lemonade generally this is all we have to drink other then water. I find that I only drink anything at night more often then not water. Before switching over to my refillable bottle I could go through 5-6 bottles of water a night easily. am I over hydrating in the night and my body compensates for all that water taken in by keeping me not thirsty? Is there such thing as too much water? What are your thoughts on this idea, I would like to know.

Hi!
Yes there is such a thing but it seems unlikely that you are having too much from what you say. I am assuming you mean small bottles of water. I think we can definitely have around 3 litres of water safely and I know of people who have been prescribed 5 litres a day.

Our thirst mechanism is not that sophisticated apparently and we can need to be quite dehydrated to feel thirsty especially if it is what our bodies are used to.

Maybe what you need to do is drink regularly during the day regardless of what you feel like and then hopefully your preferences will correct themselves. Apparently sipping intermittently is more helpful than downing large glasses if water.

I agree with Abstract. I have to be quite dehydrated before I start to feel thirsty. If I'm not careful I have a similar pattern to you - I drink little during the day then start in the evening. I don't think the water I drink in the evening/night keeps me hydrated during the next day. I think I'm not drinking enough in the morning and afternoon, then I only start to notice the need to drink something later in the day when it has built up.

Not drinking enough can have an effect on your mood. Drinking water later in the day instead of earlier can affect your sleep, too. It's worth keeping a bottle of water with you and aiming to drink a certain amount, such as one bottle in the morning and one in the afternoon. (Or maybe two? I don't know how big the bottles are.) I keep water next to me and keep sipping. I feel better when I do that.

I make an alternative to water, each component does something beneficial for the body:

1 cucumber peeled and sliced thin
1 lemon sliced then
1 knob (medium) of ginger, sliced/striped and diced
20 or so mint leaves, crushed.
2 quarts of water

Let it sit in the refrigerator over night. It is refreshing and a good substitute.

It is rare that people drink too much water, as 70% of the adult population are actually chronically dehydrated.

64 ounces is a starting place. Depending on warmer temperatures or exercise... I actually do between 100 and 180 ounces. Lymph is thicker than blood, so personally for my allergies, it moves through my system better with higher hydration.

Albatross, intriguing recipe. Do you blend the ingredients together or just let them sit in the water?

I think I've worked out that a quart is 2 pints so that's about a litre? 64 ounces of water has me stumped though! :p

You just let them sit in water. It only keeps for three days though. Which is sort of an incentive. If you actually endeavor to make it, you drink 2 quarts in 2-3 days. My husband drinks it too and we do it once a week during fall and winter and twice a week for spring and summer.

Albatros I would love to make that and I would hope you can send me the recipe at a later time as I can't currently make it here at the house. My dad and brother are inherently allergic to cucumber. But I feel like when we get moved into the new house I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks for the fun looking recipe :).
