Sarg brought up a good point about people who hang around and join forums just to start problems.
This has been happening for years and will still continue to happen. They think it is funny and have no idea on what effect it can have.
Our forum runs quite smoothly for the most part, and is usually self moderated. If someone is out of line, we tell them, if someone is being too somber and depressive all the time, we tell them. Basically if anything is said that affects the smooth running of the forum, then it should be addressed.
Having said that though, everyone is allowed to vent even if they are depressed. We just don't have to read it. But if those comments are inserted into our conversations then it needs to be reported. On the other hand we can also select their name and hit the 'ignore' button.
We do have to take into account veterans who come on here who legitimately need our help. They might not have access to medication, and might not have access to a therapist. They might not have the slightest idea on what to do. I am sure we have all been there. It's up to us to guide them in the right direction. But like leading a horse to water, if they don't take our advise and continue on their plight, once again we can then take action.
And lastly we get the children after a bit of a thrill and of course the students studying PTSD who think they know the whole picture. I say no more.
Just my opinion.
