I have been trained as a nurse but decided to leave it behind for various reasons.

However, I do think I might could have advice for you?

When I was in college I had a flare up of PTSD and decided to take a temporary medical leave of absence. During that time, I joined a hospital-based group therapy for about a month, which helped tremendously.

I did something similar after my final TBI -- and a doctor explained that both times I left college temporarily were both times needed for my injured brain to heal. She was right. After having time and resources for rest and healing, my flare ups died down and my brain worked fine.

I remember an instance that may help you more? I watched another nurse try to stop a boy from taking his eye out with a pencil. Worked okay, that part alone will bother the mind for a long time. The boy turned around and stabbed the nurse with the pencil. The nurse was encouraged to take off for medical reasons for about a week, in which time he rested and set up group therapy in the hospital and set up one on one with a therapist.

Good luck, and take care of yourself
