Did anyone notice the picture of Trump and his interns???? All white, mostly men. I think that speaks volumes.

Haven't seen the picture, but, if I'd had to guess, I'd have expected it to look like the Miss Universe pageant.

It seems like he may have caught the military off guard with this announcement. Is it possible it's something he blurted out in the moment, without actually running it by anyone?

I've been listening to the news and thinking about this. Isn't there some kind of formal procedure for changing a policy on something major like "who can serve in the military"? Is it actually true that the president can make a tweet and say "Make it so"? For real?????? Because if his (often contradictory) tweets represent 'policy'..... Well my first question is how do we decide which to take seriously?

I don't know the ins and outs, particularly with the military, but in some instances, it's not far from how things are.

The was a quip by one of the Clinton (slick Willy) sides about 'residential orders that said something along the lines of:

What is really weird, is that these votes are not actually votes on the bills themselves. They are votes to get the ball rolling to debate the bill. These votes are not to pass or not pass a bill, but just procedural steps. It's kind of non-news, that's being made into huge. I keep wondering why.

Exactly why I am not watching any of it yet. It would be enough to throw my head into a wall perm but it doesnt matter yet.

Just a mini-rant: Trump does this thing which is intimately familiar to all of us who have been abused by a narcissist. Whatever he's accused of, he accuses his enemies of doing. Classic case at the moment: his tweets calling on investigations into Hillary's crimes with the Russians. Which is laughably ludicrous. That woman has been in the public spotlight for 30 some years and is probably the most investigated American ever. And, oh, she always released her tax returns.

Also, there's a lot of Republican blowback on this stupid trans ban distraction. It took Defense leaders by surprise. No one wants it. I was pleasantly shocked to see Orrin Hatch, Republican of Utah, deride this last night in a brief interview. He basically said people are born this way and we should not discriminate against them. Good for him!

I would guess they are probably the ultra-right people, if any. But CNN also has an article now entitled "Conservatives didn't ask for this."

By the way, Ann Coulter is trans. For proof, just note her Adam's apple. She didn't get a very good shave job. I don't hold that against her. Just her hateful attitudes. I don't care if someone's LGBTQ, Republican, Democrat, other -- if they are not compassionate, normal, democracy-loving people, I have no time for them.

From what I read a couple months ago, France was really smart about that and put out electronic bait for the Russians. I cannot remember the source(s), but I would guess it's a strategy our and others' intelligence agencies are examining.

In essence, yes. I served during a time when women kept being voted by congress away from 'combat forward roles'. There were times I was literally pulled from the line and sent back to C-school to learn a new job. Thick of it one moment. Sent home the next. And, yes. That is a plural statement. Didn't just happen once. Seriously f*cked up bullshit when the politicians start ordering the military around. But if orders came down the pipe? You make them happen. A few thousand is nothing. Military deals in numbers of tens & hundreds of thousands every day. Could be processed out in under 24hours.
