I know, believe me. I have friends of color, too, and I am just outraged at what some of them go through.

I am just trying to find a line of action that might be productive toward changing some of these haters. Not all of them can be changed, for sure, but if we can reduce their numbers, that would be something. My goal at this point is not to stay intellectually pure (though that was normally my stance in more normal times), but to try to be as pragmatic as possible toward avoiding more outright political violence in our country, or even another civil war.

Yes, Scout! And the truly frightening thing to me is how Trump has been riling up disenfranchised white people just as Hitler did. Blaming their misfortunes on the Others and encouraging policies to punish the Others. It's really, really horrifying.

I have a Hispanic friend whose family is from Puerto Rico, and they are all scared because some relatives are recent "immigrants" and have accents. Even though Puerto Rico is technically part of America, and their immigration is totally legit, they are still scared, and I don't blame them. I'm scared for them, too.

This is such a major question for me. I've too many friends, and with their permission I am permitted to add PoC, that are not interested in the perpetuation of the hate they've had to endure ALL of their lives, only to have this dramatic uptick in the last several months.
It's totally understandable that they feel that way. It's totally understandable that they're wondering if there's ever going to be an end to this kind of thing. (I sort of wonder that too.) And I absolutely blame Trump & the rest of his crew. LEADERS, I'd like to think, inspire people to be their best possible selves. What he's about reminds me a lot more of Hitler. (To use an overdone comparison.) I'm really encouraged to see that, so far, it's a pretty small group who are buying into it.

My dad used to say "Two wrongs don't make a right." A thousand wrongs don't make a right either. I'm hoping that there's enough patience, perseverance, and good will available so we can come through this a better nation. I think that's an option.

I used to be politically interested and have now changed to the point where I don't watch any news any more. I have no idea what is happening in the world for the last week and it is very liberating (to me). I think politics is some of the most unnecessary things for a PTSD sufferer, especially since there are so many extremely opinionated people no matter what their agendas are.

My future is rock climbing, skydiving; return to fitness when I am ready and all kinds of mental healing to get normal. Politics is not even on the bottom of my list any more and I doubt it will EVER come back. I have even stopped watching soccer, which I grew up with since I was 3 and have been involved with all my life. The sudden movements, yelling at stadiums and even discussions about it, can rile my brain up. I am getting to the point in the PTSD where I am sensitized to anything, yet I have to try pushing through it. I will be going with a veteran friend of mine for the next weeks and try out the rocks. as soon as my wife allows me to, I will be back in the plane again also.

Finally, the political climate in USA is, IMHO, very unhealthy for most of us and I think it started MUCH earlier than Trump. He, just like Obama and Bush is simply being the standard bearer and punching bag. I don't see any reason think it would have been better with Hillary in charge and we all know what happened to my dear Ron Paul and even Bernie.

Politics is what humans do to avoid war? How's that working out for us? We've been at war for how long? Most especially in our minds. Currently, with the exception of those who go to the front lines, it hasn't been on our soil as far as the massive militarized weaponry (mostly), but there's definitely a war going on, constantly.

I'm sorry if anyone disagrees with me but I 100% agree with what Trump is currently stating about the war in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and terrorists/ISIS. Not one thing did I disagree with. It is about time!

I'm not sure you have to be sorry if anyone disagrees with you......

It was an interesting speech. I honestly found myself wondering who wrote it. I agree with most of it too. The only thing I'd add is that there's a place coming up, maybe, that will be similar to his "Who knew health care could be so complicated?" moment. Because this IS complicated and most of the ideas expressed in the speech have been expressed before. They may have suffered a bit in the execution. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Honestly, I don't care if Trump is right, wrong, correct or incorrect. I believe he's dangerous and should not be leading our country. Wait till tonight, when you see him in action in AZ, he'll be right back to his old self, criticizing the press, democrats, and even his own party.

The black caucus is now trying to decide if they will join with the Democratic Party on the Impeachment process. God, I hope so....

@scout86 Someone wrote the speech, because we ALL know that Trump wouldn't have said anything even close to what he said. I also wondered HOW he stayed on script, as we all know he likes to wander off script and spew his crap.
