Is anyone else getting paranoid about Facebook? Ever since they came out with the results of their internal review, I've been looking skeptically at a lot of posts that come my way, particularly the ones that invite you to do some kind of personality test. They look benign and fun at first, but when you think about it, they could be used to target people for various nefarious ends. I am also now highly suspicious of any posts that ask where you are from -- also, in a kind of benign way, like "oh, please say where you are from so I can see how far this traveled." Umm, no. Also such posts are usually loaded with bad grammar -- and not typical native English bad grammar, but the kind of bad grammar common among non-native speakers from certain areas of eastern Europe and Russia. I am familiar with that kind of bad grammar, because I have had friends from that part of the world. Actually, I am very sensitive to the different kinds of grammar mistakes people from various parts of the world make, because I have friends from all over the world and the mistakes are distinct according to what their native languages are. I am betting that that is a technique that could be used to manipulate us come next election time. I'm at the point where I'm kind of afraid of posting a message like this on my FB page. But I feel safe here.
I just wanted to throw this out here. I'm pretty sure I'm right about this, but welcome other assessments. Also, just want to alert people and see if anyone else sees the same things I do. I am no longer doing any of those "fun" personality quizzes or anything of that nature on FB.
