This is why I wish we would reduce the power of the federal government and give more power back to local and state governments who can know the situation on the ground better - everything from health care to education.

This we absoultly agree on. I think the the government should still be there, overseeing States to makes sure all play by the rules but the State control the majority of things.

Now there are things, laws federally, that should still be there. Like I should still be able to train my own service dog even if I move States. Just an example. But more State control and less government control would be very nice.

Yeah, @She Cat. It got to be so depressing and awful, I actually wanted to see more polit...
@hodge You helped me more during and after Harvey than you probably realize. I feel like you had a mental depth of understanding that was directly linked to my therapist. You are the one that pointed out that this was a new trauma for me and helped me sooo much when I felt trapped and my friend was trapped. Thank you!

Is anyone else getting paranoid about Facebook? Ever since they came out with the results of their internal review, I've been looking skeptically at a lot of posts that come my way, particularly the ones that invite you to do some kind of personality test. They look benign and fun at first, but when you think about it, they could be used to target people for various nefarious ends. I am also now highly suspicious of any posts that ask where you are from -- also, in a kind of benign way, like "oh, please say where you are from so I can see how far this traveled." Umm, no. Also such posts are usually loaded with bad grammar -- and not typical native English bad grammar, but the kind of bad grammar common among non-native speakers from certain areas of eastern Europe and Russia. I am familiar with that kind of bad grammar, because I have had friends from that part of the world. Actually, I am very sensitive to the different kinds of grammar mistakes people from various parts of the world make, because I have friends from all over the world and the mistakes are distinct according to what their native languages are. I am betting that that is a technique that could be used to manipulate us come next election time. I'm at the point where I'm kind of afraid of posting a message like this on my FB page. But I feel safe here.

I just wanted to throw this out here. I'm pretty sure I'm right about this, but welcome other assessments. Also, just want to alert people and see if anyone else sees the same things I do. I am no longer doing any of those "fun" personality quizzes or anything of that nature on FB.

@hodge I ONLY use face book because there is a I hate Donald trump page where you can spew whatever you want. I don't use FB for anything other than that.... honestly I think most of FB is a bunch of narcissistic people trying to outdo the other. Some of the post just make me sick!!!! The other half are just trying to connect with family and friends, but for the most part it makes me gag!!!

I just ignore all the other crap..

Not "getting" paranoid, I've pretty much never trusted them. I read enough of the disclosure info to realize that they own any data you give them. It was pretty clear they wanted to own it so they could use it and there's no special reason to think they care about anyone but themselves.

I have a couple of clients who insist on using FB to contact me, otherwise, I'm not sure I'd even have an account. (They're trying to take over the world, I'm sure of it!)

They're trying to take over the world, I'm sure of it!

Look at the permissions they want in their mobile apps. And then forcing to get messager app even if you just use facebook in a mobile browser and then messager wants the same permissions. Yeah, they want to basically be able to use your phone without having that phone in their hands. It's a bunch of BS is what it is!

Some things are better than others. Personally, I think FB & Google are the worst. I suppose Microsoft is up there too.

Facebook, Equifax, and others are basically data companies. You and I are not actually their customers. We don't actually purchase anything from them. Oh they give us something for free, and there is a cost - we are the product, or rather our data is the product.

Never trusted Facebook. Not afraid of them though. I just accept that I'm not actually their customer. Same for Equifax.

It's like all the quizzes people take on Facebook. I partly want to scream, you are handing over your data for free when you take that "what Disney princess personality are you?" quiz! But I don't, because that's what I'm doing myself when I sign up for Facebook myself.
