How much do you think media coverage affects this sort of thing? There seems to be a competition of a sort.
I've got a very interesting book on mass killings in the US. First, there are several definitions. The most common type is actually one family member kills other family members and,, quite likely, themselves. Those are common enough that the usually only make the local news.
Usually the perp is more than angry. They are frustrated, desperate, feel they're disrespected, etc.
So, maybe we need to create a culture where people aren't treated as "other"? Where people feel respected and that there are ways they can be heard?
The whole thing right now with the focus on "mental illness" and mass shootings is one more way of making the perp's "other". I don't know that that helps.
