I don't want to argue about what is and isn't in the law. That's not my point. My point is, legislators aren't all bright, hard working people who want to be well informed. Some of them are, some of them, I'm really sure, aren't. They know what people tell them. They know what they read. If they read articles like that one, and they get emails from constituents complaining about how much it costs to make their place of business accessible, and that's ALL they get, then that's most likely all they know. I'm totally sure some of them are interested in this area. For one thing, some of them are in wheelchairs. But, unless they have a special personal interest, or unless someone some how gets their attention, why would they go out of their way doing research?

You don't HAVE to contact your elected representatives, or join a group that's advocating for disability rights. You can come here and complain to us, who can't do anything other that vote, contact our elected representatives, etc. But, you DO have a story and you COULD tell it to people who actually can do something about this.

There are a lot of bills that pass the House and never go any further. With any luck, this will be one of those.

Right but that is about ESAs on an airplanes. Which doesn't matter as ESAs aren't covered by the ADA and airplanes are covered by the ACAA so neither really enter the conversation as this is about the ADA.

I did already contact my elected offical long before bringing it up here. My point of bringing it up was bringing it to light on a site full of disabled people so they could also contact their elected officals and to have a conversation about it. Not really to complain (though I could argue that this entire thread is of complaining but not doing anything) but to converse about a real bill that really passed through the House that needs to be stopped at the Senate because it can make all of our lives way more hellish then they are already. I do literally have a dog in this fight but we are all disabled and we are all affected if this passes as is. And conversation is the start of change.

I apologize not reading the other posts. I thought this would’ve a good place for the topic of school shootings. I have always had a strong interest in our public schools. I need to find a way to give. Not just money but time. Our children need our help.

@Alice.in.Wonderland, I just gave to a gofundme account for a kid named Anthony Borges who was shot numerous times while blocking a classroom door against the shooter. I don't know of any one FB page to support these kids collectively, but I've been to Delaney Tarr's page and offered supportive messages. Just some ideas. I know how you feel. I also want to support these kids any way I can. They are our future and they are smart!

An emotional support animal is a type of assistance animal that is recognized as a "reasonable accommodation" for a person with a disability under the federal Fair Housing Act (FHAct, 42 U.S.C.A. 3601 et seq.). The assistance animal is not a pet according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

I have a prescription from my Dr. for an emotional support animal. Emotional support animals do not have all of the legal protection of a service animal, but they do have some especially when it comes to housing.

I would give to go fund me if I knew the page was legit. I think there’s another march next month. I am friendly with one of our employee legal people and ask what are safe ways for me to participate. Being a fed employee there are limitations. More so with the current administration.

For the people who would like to see the legal age to buy or possess a gun raised, I've been wondering, do you think the age at which a person can be charged as an adult should be raised too?

I can remember when the age of majority was dropped from 21 to 18. The idea was, if you're old enough to be shipped off to Vietnam as cannon fodder, you should be old enough to vote. Since then, they've rolled the legal drinking age back, but there's also some good neuroscience that suggests the higher cognitive centers of the brain aren't done developing until the mid-20s. But we send a lot of juveniles to prison, charged and sentenced as adults. Should we be more consistent?

Not wrong. There is a difference in an Emotional support animal and a service animal.

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.

ADA Requirements: Service Animals

There is a provision for miniture horses. So dogs and miniture horses are the only legal SERVICE ANIMAL recongized by the ADA. I also advised an ESA can be any animal. But a service animal is legally limited to a dog and a miniture horse. Therefore there is no such things as a service pig, a service turkey, a service anything but a dog and a miniture horse per the ADA.

I also advised a state allowed a service cat but we are talking about the ADA here.

Emotional support animals do not have all of the legal protection of a service animal, but they do have some especially when it comes to housing.

To be exact (which I already advised) they have protection to fly with you under the ACAA and to live with you under the Fair Housing Act but are not recongized by the ADA and do not legally have the right to go with you in public. Since HR 620 is specifclly about the ADA and not the ACAA and FHA, they do not even enter the conversation.

I just caught the part about no such thing support animals covered by law, and missed that you were specifically referring to the ADA because there are laws governing support animals when it comes to housing. Did I mention I really need sleep?
