My doctor told me I am in danger of getting Diabetes, and I need to walk 20 minutes, 3 times per day every day of the week. She wants me to walk after each meal. UGH!
I joined a weight loss/ exercise group that meets once per week on Monday nights at 6PM. We weigh ourselves every morning first thing when we wake. We keep an email going between us every day and we each have a partner to share more personal stuff with on the phone. I weighed 187 pounds before I even heard of the group and started by taking sugar out of my diet before I even had heard of the group. I lost 9 pounds, just by not eating sweets and not buying them either. If I don't have it in the house, I can't eat it!
When I started with the group, we were told that eating 1300 calories per day and exercising 30 mins per day as well would help us to lose one pound per week. So I got a scales (I had not even owned one) and started with the plan. At the start of the group, I weighed 176.6 and now I weigh 170.8 pounds. We have been at this for about 7 weeks now. We watch videos too, Bible Studies about weight loss. The one we are doing right now is called MADE TO CRAVE by Lysa TerKeurst. We will be doing one called THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE next. These usually have books that go with them and we have homework to do too.
One of the things our group strongly believes, just like the AA (OA) groups believe, is that one needs a Higher Power in order to succeed at this. Through white knuckling and our own willpower alone, we too often lose. It is an uphill battle and without God's help, it sometimes is just plain impossible not to overeat. I believe strongly in our group, I am having success and that counts. It is a lot harder to lose weight one one's own (or to gain it either). The group is a great bunch of supportive folks. I stand by them.
So count me in here, I can always use some more support!
