Weird Med Effects? SSRI’s Increasing Body Memories?

hope this is the correct location. Couldnt figure if this went under anxiety section or here.

I was recently put on zoloft, despite having held off on any meds as long as I did. While it has helped with intrusive thoughts/memories, and possibly the anxiety and depression, I am noticing that there are an increase (numerous times a day, esp at night) of phantom physical sensations in areas that are involved in CSA (my past baggage), what I assume are body memories. I make that assumption because those sensations have been connected to becoming anxious in connection with thoughts, discussion, or feelings connected to the baggage and it makes me want to damage/hurt those areas to make it stop. and trying to look up information that is the best guess I can find. the only other thing I can think is just weird manifestation of anxiety in the body. (sorry for that TMI ramble.)

anyway, the was wanting to ask those who take SSRI's, has anyone noticed an increase in body memories or weird physical sensations while helping in other areas? I havent seen that as a listed side effect or how to research it. not asking for medical advice, but more others experience or ideas or to figure out if I am losing it or a disgusting freak.
and so sorry to bother yall with this embarrassing stuff. it is so hard to bring up in therapy or talk about with anyone without feeling so disgusting and ashamed.

You have no reason to be embarrassed or ashamed and what you talked about is certainly not TMI here.

I’m on Zoloft and luckily haven’t had anything like that. Are you starting to focus on your trauma in therapy? I’ve noticed the deeper we dive in certain areas, the stronger those memories get.

I was on Zoloft for a long time and do not remember anything like that happening. When the body memories happen, it doesn't matter what meds I am on.

I agree with @Kubash16 , that possibly you are entering a deeper level of work and possibly becoming more aware. And also agree that it is nothing to be ashamed of. It's part of our body and mind starting to become aware.

Could you show this to your T? It helps sometimes to do this, or write down what you want to say. It helps to take some of the anxiety away from sharing something so personal. And please don't think anything you share here will ever be TMI. We've either experienced what you are sharing, or know someone here who has.

shoulda seen the med section to put this in...

thank yall for the responses.
yeah, we been touching a bit more on my baggage. It just seams like it increased rather suddenly and so seamed connected.
and thank yall for advice.

The aftereffects of opening up trauma stuff in therapy really can occur this quickly, and can be quite a shock. I agree with all that the shift was likely caused by the work you're doing in therapy - but it's always good to make sure you keep monitoring your response to any new medication, and update your prescriber at your next appt.

I was on Sertraline and after 2 days my libido went through the roof and I had the emergence of body memories (rape) which was pretty bad. It was one of the reasons I stopped taking it - that and it detached me further from my emotional self than I already was.

However, in the week leading up to this I also disclosed for the first time early events in my life so have wondered if "wires" got crossed and the Sertraline was only a part of the problem. The libido thing was a big deal, I really didn't want to be dealing with that ... I scouted around the internet and did find other women who had also had this happen. It took nearly 2 weeks for my libido to settle.
