Isnt there some work on reducing the likelihood of combat PTSD by letting guys retreat to a place of safety once in awhile? Like knowing that there is a start, a middle, and an end to the enemy contact lowers the onset rate? Or is that just GI government bullshit for "we need more troops"?
Anyway, there isn't a more inescapable kind of hell than a bad childhood. Even with todays sensitivity to abuse and so many people that are in contact with kids being sworn to report, the abuse has to happen first and it is not likely that the first day, week, or even month or year of it will be seen and reported and corrected.
Quite a few of us suffered the abuse back in the 60's and 70's, child services was a different entity back then and public physical discipline was a part of the deal in the US. Especially in some religious schools. I think we could have been beaten in front of a cop back then without intervention.
So yeah, I think there are a lot of us that entered adulthood with our glasses pretty much half full or more. My adulthood started at 14, and my glass was overflowing by 15. I am not alone.
