Hmm, I've always been confused, though, are humans endo or exothermic. Because, our heat comes from within, but we consume food from outside :P I think the official deffinition is endothermic :P

In general metabolism both types of reactions occur. Many exothermic reactions are coupled to endothermic reactions, in order to drive them such as the hydrolysis of ATP during peptide synthesis or the chemiosmotic synthesis of ATP. Cells don't undergo equilibrium reactions instead cellular processes are steady state. Equilibrium is death. The average human recycles around 200lbs of ATP per day the production of ATP is endothermic but it's hydrolysis is exothermic, in order to do that a constant supply of nutrient biomolecules must be ingested. We ultimately derive our energy from the sun.

It's difficult to determine the net reaction energy as there are so many reactions (hundreds),all under tight genetic control via hormones and other feedback loops. Yes, some textbooks say net endo others say the contrary but university biochem texts are far more nuanced on the subject, it's actually not important and at certain instantaneous and finite states either could apply. I actually would say net exothermic because heat is ultimately released by the body and not absorbed from the surroundings causing a decrease in temperature.

Also strict delineation of the net reaction energetics is under the heading of 'equilibrium thermodynamics', steady state is similar but not quite defined in the overall sense by a pure equilibrium assumption or approximation. Then there's nonequilibrium thermodynamics which is dynamic and not steady state but can only be resolved by chopping the system into small equilibrium or steady state elements called 'control volumes'

I was at the bank and there were a bunch of paper clips just laying on this table in the room where you go into your safety deposit box. I was going to take them, but then I realized that would be stealing, since I did not know who they belonged to (the bank or one of its customers). Anyway, I left them there, even though I need paper clips. I keep forgetting to put them on my shopping list and buy them. I think I have one spare one left in my desk.

I know this is not the usual kind of bad stuff that you all are talking about, but I felt guilty about thinking of doing it, so I am confessing it here.
