What do bedrooms look like?

I need to add, the most important part of a bedroom, that I have learned as I age, is a good quality mattress. We once got my daughter a mattress from Sams that is all memory foam. It was less expensive than real mattresses, and it is extremely comfortable. Our new mattress is good quality and by far, the best part of my bedroom.

Somebody saw my bedroom a couple weeks ago and said "where do you keep you personal things?". I don't like acquiring things, just more to lose and it feels like a weight to me.

I have a queen size foam mattress at one end with one large glass topped side table and lamp (colored glass). At the other end is a very large arm mounted tv that also serves as my computer screen. I have an old school looking, black and white arabic numeraled atomic clock above the tv. Some painted art from venice beach and a painting of Seattle's pike place market hang on the wall. I have blackout drapes for when I have a migraine and need darkness. That's it man, clothing in the closet and tools in the garage.

Ah yes, memory foam.....I just got some I went glamour camping in my SUV (glamour camping....making a house out of your car and sleeping in it at campsites with electricity and plumbing) with a Colman innerspring battery inflatable mattress. Oh my back killed me the first night. So when I got cross country.....I purchased 3 inches of memory foam and put it on top of the mattress......and slept all the way cross country! Memory foam is awesome! I vote for memory foam in any bedroom!

Oh, dang, I had no idea that Sam’s sold mattresses. That sounds like an excellent place to look. To be... really open (hopefully not too personal?) I’ve had the same mattress from when I was three years old, the one my dad gifted me on my birthday in 1998. It’s springs with a .025mm or something of something soft. I got a topper for it later. It feels really similar to the mattress in this dorm room, except the dorm bed has a little more support. Someone gifted me a used memory foam pad — actually, one for me, and one for the other bed (my dog has her own bed) — and man has it been nice! A bit warm but I could always get a cooling pad. So I really like the idea of memory foam mattresses!

Someone here showed me Rooms to Go. Neat matching furnitures there — expensive but technically cheaper?

Also, thank you for your replies! You’re helping a lot.

@people with no clutter in your room, I think that’s awesome. I have such a hard time with clutter, but I know I can’t get rid of all of it, so I really respect that :)

Another great place to buy mattresses are the outlet stores that sell discontinued, mismatched fabric, & 30 day tried & returned mattresses (professionally sterilised, and won’t be accepted damaged or stained in any way).

I got a $3,000 Simmons BeautyRest mattress/box spring for $500 that way. I knew essentially which models of mattress I wanted (it’s an odd mix of both very firm and very soft -back support AND room for T&A  but they had a few different options in that line ), & I just kept checking back until they got one in stock, in my price range, and haggled a bit. My son’s mattress & box spring is essentially the same thing one tier down, $1500 full price, but I got a screaming deal on it for $150 (half off last years model, half off again for mismatched fabrics, and then their annual sale & a web special kinda of thing. I loooove my son’s bed. Almost -but not quite- better than my own. And a helluva lot more than I liked my old mattress. His mattress was actually a fluke. I suspected it wasn’t going to be any good / we’d use it as a trundle bed for sleepovers, but it turned out to be so amazing that it became his bed, and then I started looking for one for me by the same company, in the same style. (Ie I went around to the shops and test drove a lot, found the ones I wanted in the next tier up, and settled in to hunt for one I could afford). I’d have just gotten a second one like his for me, but the price was back to way the f*ck more than I could afford. I just lucked out with his. Mine required some serious shopping.

^^^ Buying a good mattress is a LOT like buying a car. ^^^

If you’re willing to shop around, and wait, and see what prices are during the different sales? You can get the same durn mattress -for a fraction of the price- as walking in and wanting to go home with one. Unless you just get lucky. The sales tomreally hit up are 4th of July, Labor Day, New Years, Tax Day, & Memorial Day.

This is one of the places I start my serious shopping at > https://www.mattressfirm.com/

Pillows, comfy pillows, on the bed.
I don't own a rug, I like to feel the floor.
A bookshelf or two is essential. And, obviously, books. Real books!
A desk. Mine's retro, I don't know what got into me to buy it but I like it now.
Something to put clothes in.
A good lamp to read.
Barely no decoration.

My bedroom is a mess. I have not organized since my accident. It is dusty and confusing with papers papers medical legal bills post it notes.
My closet has been stale. Suits and stuff i wore before just hangs. I basically wear the same stuff day after day and rotate the pile of clothes on chair. I have a desk scattered with pill bottles and pens.

On table there a diffuser that i can add essential oils too.

I did invest in a better mattress for recovering from back and spinal injuries. It is a simmons beautyrest and some how the foam dents and warps.. so i am on the 3rd warranty replacement.. do i thrash that violently or just defective bed twice... hope this 3rd one is a keeper.

There is a bookshelf of books i dont read...because i cant really focus and immerse myself into books anymore.. thanks TBI.

Then a big yoga ball. Foot roller. Training roller. Dumb bells. Push up grippy pad.

A stuffed koala on cabinet.
A locked 1911 in cabinet.
A racoon piggy bank on cabinet. Pictures of dead friends in cabinet.
Dust allover cabinet.

Near the door there is a note:
It was not you. It is was happened to you. Be kind to yourself. You are worth it.

I'm a minimalist and can't handle clutter.I use baskets for all my .... Crap. I keep clothes I'm not using in those Rubbermaid wrapping paper containers which I bought after Christmas for a couple bucks a piece. They're shallow enough to store under the bed. I buy most things when the seasons change because you can get everything 75% off. Everything from flannels sheets in the spring to sandals in the fall. Garage sales are great places to find storage containers to art work. I use a mans tie rack on the wall for necklaces and bracelets and one on the inside of my closest for bras and things I'm too lazy to hang. ;)

We have the basics. Bed. Tv on the wall and we built in a shelf into the wall for a "nightstand".

My sister bought a couple of her mattress's for her cabin at Sam's club. Very comfortable.

Have fun!

LMFAO... I despise hangers and refuse to use them in general principle (also drawers, the only things that live in drawers are things that don’t need folding I can just wing in, like socks, knickers, camisoles, underarmor)... I use men’s tie racks to hold my dresses & dry cleaning!

I (usually) have 2 rows of rounded brushed nickle hooks in my closet/wardrobe. Tops & bottoms. Coat tree for coats & hoodies. Lingerie chest for smallish items. Gobags in cubbies for individual sports. Voila! No hangers, no folding :smug: A 2 yo can use that system (literally, my toddlers did their own laundry), so I even when I’m all symptomatic as f*ck, I usually can, too. (( :cautious: :shifty: Not always. If I have 2 changes of clothes in a backpack? What I’m wearing and what needs washing? Wookout.))

Ever notice if it’s made FOR a man it’s useful, practical, durable, and all but bends space and time??? Tie racks to running shoes! They’re just so much better than the stuff they make for women.

And less expensive too @Friday. I also buy kids items. I have small feet so I buy girls shoes and socks. I've even bought boys Levi's (for work) from a thrift store.... I have to say that I'd rather hang stuff then fold it!!!!!

Back to bedrooms... I refurbished my Grandmas old dresser's for the spare room. However, there's no clothes in them. We use them for additional storage. We garbage picked a brass headboard and used some Brasso and a little elbow grease and wallah! It's beautiful!

@littleoc. You can decorate any way you like. Favorite colors and textures, art, photos, books... Make it your "safe place".

XO

Pinterest is the way to go for bedroom ideas. I like shabby chic in my bedroom distressed furniture and flowery things. And minimal clutter. It depends on the size of your room what built in storage you have if any and what you absolutely need like a desk or whatever.
