What do bedrooms look like?

What does a bedroom look like? I personally like to keep it fairly simple and almost dorm-room-like, but more personal and comfortable. You know, bed, desk, TV, maybe a few posters, etc.

Now what does MY bedroom look like? Messy as all get-out.

My bedroom has a standard sized twin bed, which I have covered with a hand stitched quilt and matching sham. The place comes with a rug of its own, though old and worn a bit and with spots on it here and there, but I kind of like it, as it is a non-descript color, kind of tannish brown, which matches almost anything.

Then, I have a chest of drawers, this is like a dresser, only it is upright instead of wide and long. So the drawers are one on top of the other all the way up to my eye level (I am 5'7" tall). I got it to save floor space.

I have a bed table with stuff on it that I might need in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning.

Then in the corner, I have a recliner chair that has a special pillow in it for my back. It gives me comfort and support when I sit there, even if I recline. This chair is my go to comfort zone. If I don't have anything I have to do, or if I am procrastinating from doing something I should do, I go recline in this chair and play with my Rubik's Cube or read the Bible or write in a journal or whatever. Just things that keep me happy and joyful. I read magazines there as well.

Next to that is a small desk, which is a total disaster (messy and disorganized).

My walls are covered with pictures and paintings in frames. A lot of them are by me, but some are by my beloved grandmother too. They make me feel very much at home. They contain happy memories.

There is a cross that my beloved husband had on his wall in the nursing home, right before he died, so I have it there in my room to remind me of him and also of my faith.

Oh yeah, I forgot the bookshelf! It has mostly picture books in it, which I use at my job. It also has inspirational books, which keep me going when life gets rough. It also has my alarm clock sitting in it, on the top shelf, because I have to get out of bed to turn it off (and it just rings louder and louder till you cannot stand it, so I jump out of bed "pronto!" and turn it off, as I hate its sound). That gets me up fast!

My room is kind of messy right now. I need to straighten it out. I made that decision today when I got home. I noticed it is not the way I like it. It gets that way every few weeks, so I have to go through and organize, throw stuff out, arrange things, dust, etc. I hope to do that this coming week sometime soon.

I think a bedroom should feel comfortable and safe, so whatever helps you to feel that way, go for it! I bought a new place a few years back (condo) and I painted the bedroom lavender, which is one of my favorite colors. It's pretty good sized, so my bed, chest of drawers, and dresser fit comfortably in it. All my furniture belonged to my grandmother (who died in 1982, so it's really old) - I'd love to get my own sometime, but probably won't.

I have one of those high beds - I'd like a completely new style, although I really like that I can put stuff underneath and being in a high bed makes me feel kind of safe.

I have a bedside stand for a lamp and my CPAP, animal and bird paintings on the walls (small ones in groups of 3) and a wooden plaque (probably 3 feet by 1 foot) with an Indian prayer on it. One throw rug and a clothing tree. The obligatory cat tree. LOL Oh, and a meditation cushion next to a very small table with a statue of Quan Yin and my prayer beads on it.

Well, that sounds like a lot, but it's pretty large so it doesn't feel crowded at all.
