My current go to song: Enya: Celtic Women sing, May it Be which a hopeful song about a journey....a lonely one, far away from home, but the message is: if you believe, you will find your way. My folk group and string/recorder group play this and it is always a renewing goosebump moment. This song usually alters my mood....helps get me back on track....
John Denver believe it or not: The Eagle and the Hawk (freeing), Take Me Home, Country Roads (makes me feel belonging), and Rhymes and Reasons (
The Hallelujah Chorus-any time of the year.....way goosebumpy when sung by the right group and soloists!
Johann Strauss-His Best Waltzes Album (I learned to love waltzes on my grandfather's old vinal albums ) Strausses waltzes are goosebumpy! Dancing a fast waltz (think The King and I) with someone else who can....very goosebumpy!
The Courante-I love Michael Pretorius! When we play recorders/strings we all feel this one! Group goosebumps! Sighs......
Celtic: I sing only one song for the group....Shule Shule Shule Aroon (very sad but very beautiful Celtic piece) but Fields of Athenry and She Moved Through the Fair also are beautiful.
Elton John: Spirit in the Sky (tells a feelings story) about something stolen
I can belt out "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" I just dig this song! and sooo much fun! It's just but a moment in time when I sing it, but what fun....!
Also familiar with Ba'hai teachings, as I have friends who are Ba'hai and invited me to their prayer meeting in my younger years. Very nice folks. I'm very accepting of everyone's right to personal choice in the spiritual department. If I go to church, it is UU where everyone is welcome, no matter who you are and they invite individuality of thought and belief, as well as diversity. I was raised Catholic....way too many rules for me...but I think the spiritual realm is important-it provides strength and hope when I do feel hopeless.
I love the diversity of music at the UU....sometimes good old fashioned bluegrass, sometimes recorder group, or a string quartet, an amazing pianist doing classical, or students from the local college who come to share their talents with secular vocal pieces. Sometimes we even have dancers come....or meditation.....a very diverse mix of people who support basic values...something as a teacher in public school I find lacking. Thanks for sharing in this thread....I found it thought-provoking.
