What Is Your Best Coping Method?

Functionality-wise, my best coping mechanism is to throw/switch my focus onto the person I am with or working for... for me it is a mental break. I didn't know I was doing this til my mister was observing me teaching swim classes or private lessons. He remarked about the distinct difference in my ability when "I" would turn myself "off" and be 100% present and focused on the other person. Hard to explain.
 
At times of high stress, I act out scenes of my traumatizing experiences. They are sexual in nature. I'm not saying this is a helpful or positive coping strategy, but it's been a way of life for a long time.

I also listen to my vinyl (records), go for walks, swim in the sea, kayak and surf a bit.
 
I search the online ads on eBay and kijiji for things I like - I never buy, it's the looking forward that grounds me in the present and helps me to keep looking up, to possibilities.

Physical activity - the more intense the workouts the better - like crossfit, Krav Maga, running or training for marathons

Music

Watching old tv series' that i can find on streaming services or you tube.

I also talk to myself as though I am someone I really like and tell myself I will have reactions/emotions that some others might not have.

I tell myself I am doing really well and during the really hard times I tell myself I am here and I won't abandon 'her'.
