3. If the recipent has a Paypal account, the fee (why ship money?) would only be fractional...
Not sure I understand...
Okay, I try to explain what I meant, (but finding the correct words in English is very difficult for me today). What I wrote did refer to the following statement:
Value Spend: the winner gets a certain amount, including shipping, to spend on an item of their choice.
Okay, If you or whomever will transfer the money to the winner of the raffle = recipient, and you do the money transfer via bank account, the fee can almost eliminate the amount of money they (recipient) will get, as soon as it's not in the same country. So why not sending the amount via Paypal account as "send money to a friend". Then the fee that Paypal takes will be a fraction of what a bank would take.
Example: If someone from a foreign country would transfer $ 30.-- to my bank account, the fee my bank / post-office would take, would be about $ 22.--. So that in the end I would only get $8.--. That's why I suggested the money transfer via Paypal, as I wrote:

Sorry my explanation is so complicated. Really struggling thinking today. By the way, I really like @Saelben suggestion (cool t-shirts or something on that price level!)

Oh, no - you explained it well. Now I understand. I expect, in a value-spend, that the person would identify the item, but we would be purchasing it. No transfer of cash, only gifts. And of course, part of the whole addressing the individual's country situation can actually include sourcing from inside their country. You'll see a lot of Amazon referenced because MyPTSD interacts with Amazon, ad-wise, so it's financially to the benefit of the forum to use Amazon; but it's not required.

Oh, that is not how I interpreted it when I voted. I was thinking you meant along the lines of Amazon vouchers ( which have no shipping fee) for the winner to spend as they choose. I would spend it on a selection of bakeware, probably rather than a specific 'item'. I would be embarrassed to give you a 'shopping list' to the value.

I might even choose to use it for Amazon pantry, again I would rather keep the details private. Am I just being picky?

ETA
I have just changed my vote - to 'something else'. And that would be Amazon Vouchers.

My vote would go for 'something else' - the something else being Amazon vouchers.

I'd also prefer the value of the prize to be lower so that more of the fundraising is going into the forum, rather than into the prize. Personally, I don't really want to contribute to the funding of a high value prize.

ETA - that's assuming that the prize(s) are being funded by the fundraising and not being donated from an external source.

The thing with fundraising is the more expensive the prize the more money you will raise. In Australia the charities might pay $10,000 for someone to go to a networking/fundraising dinner but that person might bring back more than a million dollars to the organisation. It is a type of false economy to think that saving money on a prize will actually increase the fundraising amount to the forum. You have to invest to to raise the bigger money. Sure if the charity didn't spend the money they would have the $10,000 but they miss out on the million plus. It is a really detailed type of professional position these days. I raised $20,000 a few times for a few different causes - it takes a fair bit of doing. Just my Two Cents worth.

I bet most people would agree with you - all things being equal, it would be nice to have the prize not 'deduct' from the forum. And depending on the prize, this might be very possible; it's something I'll need to investigate further.

But definitely, I hear this.

That sort of thing would be great :) In that case the chance of loss of forum if the raffle doesn't really work out is reduced to about 0% :)

I am all for tee shirts. Simple and inexpensive. With a really good logo on them and some silk screening or tie dyed, as long as they have my size.

I think the raffle is a great idea for fun.It is a good fund raiser.

I wish I could donate more than I do but I have to only give what I can afford. I owe the forum my support because I have learned and grown so much since signing up.

Things like t-shirts depend on country being shipped too, customs, and VAT tax. Can cost more than t-shirt itself. Think we need to remember this is international site.

@joeylittle you asked your Amazon rep. about donations?
If you need free shipping in US from Amazon let me know. Also, discounted shipping some other countries. Think I can get you free Prime Membership account for yourself or Myptsd to handle shipping cost.

The Amazon Echo, is amazing. I have one and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The fire tablet is cool too. I also have one. I do hope the raffle works out and $$ can be raised....

We've got that covered - thanks, though :)
Yep, @lostforgottensoul - I'm pretty sure a value spend would translate into an Amazon Gift Card, purchased from the Amazon site of the member's country - so, .uk, .aus, .fr, etc.

I'm a little less a fan of t-shirts, specifically because of this - and because, for all the times people have expressed concern about browsing the site and having strangers, co-workers, etc notice what they are browsing...I'm sure no-one wants to wear a 'let's talk about MyPTSD' t-shirt. Of course we can come up with other options...but figuring the cost, with shipping (since we won't nearly have enough to get a bulk rate), plus sizing...it's a very big project. I think folks would rather be able to get themselves a thing they really will use. T-shirts are hard, honestly.
