I let my now husband know up front. I was a mess when we met. He's been nothing but supportive and I thank my lucky stars for that.
 
I know this is an older thread but I let my boyfriend know as soon as I could long before we started dating. He didn't really know what PTSD was or much about it and after more than a year and a half, he still doesn't to be completely honest. I know we have both struggled. I've been trying to find resources so I can help him understand more so he can cope better as well. He really has been EXTREMELY patient and understanding but a person can only take so much. I wish there were more resources for our loved ones.
