Hello all. I've been researching work from home jobs and I noticed here that most of the posts are older. I know that working from home is fast growing and I was wondering if anyone knew of some real opportunities?

I have been working from home for a couple of months last year in the field of web design / web development on a freelance / contract basis. I don't have any experience with remote work in other disciplines, but I can imagine translation, any kind of writing or content management are also popular job areas that encourage work from home.

I take it you've checked? That's the only job search site I know about. But more and more peo...
Thank you hodge. I'm hoping things turn around and I find something that is best for me. I have a job to go back to. I just don't know if I can do it anymore. I'm lucky that I am valued.

Did you have lots of experience with web design/development prior? I do not but would be willing to lea...
I have been working in the same field for maybe 2 or 3 years beforehand, but there is still such a high demand for people who can put together a simple, but robust website that I think also newcomers have good chances to enter the job market right now and make a good living from it. Online courses for programming or setting up your own website are all over the internet and are used by many to make their first steps in web development.

I know the feeling, Mim. I was laid off after 17 years at the same company because it was going broke. Practically everyone else was laid off, too. They wanted me to keep working for them on a freelance basis and I tried, but finally just could not handle it anymore. That's when I applied for SSD. Once I had several years of SSD benefits and lots of therapy and rest, I was able to start working part-time from my computer. I didn't do any job research; my mom urged me to work for her and I finally tried and found it to be okay, about 20 hours a month (in a good month).

Have you considered applying for SS disability? We've paid into it all our working lives and there's nothing shameful about it when you need it. It might just help you get the rest period you might need? Sometimes we need a break.

What do you mean, exactly, by 'real opportunities'?

Do you have more ideas of what you'd need from and for your desired job, both materially and in terms of contacts? Might be your place to start.

Figure what you want to do, and with whom, under what conditions, and then look around for what meets your criteria, and who enhances them.

Hodge, Did you find the process of applying for SSD difficult? The only reason I haven't is because I had imagined the process was next to impossible, especially for PTSD. My take on it was that I would have to be practically drooling in a bucket in order to qualify... am I incorrect in that assumption?

Hi Hodge. I'm sorry to hear that. I just went out and can be off on paid leave up to 6 months, but I just worry about what the rest of my life holds. I have to take care of myself. There isn't anyone else. That's why I'm thinking working from home will force me to balance. I'm approved for 3 now, but this feels so bad. I can't even leave the house.

You've gotta go with what you think is best for you right now. I just wanted to say it's okay to apply for SSD. Doesn't mean you'll need it forever, just that it's there. I understand the feeling of needing to push yourself, but sometimes that isn't the healthiest strategy. I hope you're talking about this with your therapist? And if you don't have a therapist, I highly recommend you find one soon. :hug:s if that's okay.

Oh, and also, if you regularly shop at a local grocery store, it can't hurt to call them and see if they will do deliveries. Ours does. Also our local drug store will do that, too. And if you're in a big metro area, there are also delivery services. I'm not trying to encourage your discomfort at leaving your house, just trying to suggest options for the meantime until you can leave your house.
