You Know You Have PTSD When...

When the youth pastor starts a 'trust game' (you know the one where you fall back and get caught) and calls you up in front of the church to be his demo and you just can't get up out of your chair even when it turns from funny to embarrassing..... Not his fault, he doesn't know but I was mortified, guess he will have to pick someone else next time.

Thank you for this thread. It's so nice to be able to smile about some aspects of PTSD.

When you can feel someone walking behind you and are already preparing yourself to fight when you look back and no one is actually there.

When you think that any suitcase that isn’t closer than 5 meters to another person is probably a bomb

When you have dreamt of trying but failing to call the emergency number for so many times, you actually can’t wait to finally get a chance to do it in real life

- When you're sitting in the middle of a very boring math, and you suddenly crawl under your desk and begin screaming "Please, don't hurt me," for no apparent reason at all.

- When you suddenly realize that it's not normal for family members to pull out knives on each other when they get mad.

- When you're convinced the ladybug crawling across your bedroom floor is out to kill you

All true. Heh.

When you come across a photo and it triggers you and turns your stomach inside out and all you want to do is run someplace where there are no people.

And when you then realize there are no such places and you retreat to childhood daydreaming you're trying to contact your real family that is somewhere in space and will come pick you up in no time.

When you can't tell the difference between what's real and what your hypervigilance is telling you. And you get so anxious and scared you start having emotional flashbacks and not recognizing them.

And when you can't tell the difference between what's real and what your anxiety is telling you either. Despite how everyone else is just calmly living their lives and telling you you're not in danger and every cell of your body is almost on fire with an urgent sense of danger and impending doom.

...when you can't tell the difference between what's real and what your anxiety is telling you. Despite how everyone else is just calmly living their lives and telling you you're not in danger...

When anxiety is a way of life and you sometimes feel amazed that you are for once not feeling it. Also, when you rarely can figure out what is causing it in your environment, but sometimes are lucky enough to hit it right, in which case it goes away for awhile, but not that long.

When you can't sit with your little daughter(5 years old) and look and a children's program, and be a support for her, because a man is dressed out as robot and is chasing some kids through a labyrinth making strange puffing noises. You're startled by it and it triggers you more and more each time you see it. (So bad you feel physically ill. And it doesn't get better despite that fact that you really tried to expose your self and concentrate on the breathing and relaxing part four times in a row..) Up till the day you have to confess to your little girl that it scares you, and she stops being scared and hold your hand and tells you it's okay. (And then tells you when it's okay to open your eyes again.. :D)
