You Know You Have PTSD When...

When you're in a store where a tent is on display with a shoe sticking out from it, and your first assumption is that there is a dead person or some scary crazy guy in there and you should warn a store clerk.

Turned out the foot that seemed to be filling the shoe was part of a mannequin.
Part of me isn't even annoyed; it's amazed that I apparently couldn't think of this much more likely possibility .

When you start to unload the dishwasher and find you have sent the dish towel you lost the night before through the wash cycle with the dishes. Then a few minutes later when putting a bowl in the cupboard you find the a bowl of sliced up melon you had looked for in the refrigerator knowing you had put it there the night before. :meh:

You know you have PTSD when you are not in law enforcement and your lunch topic (that you bring up) is how you are saving to acquire a concealed weapons license during their cosmetic conversation.

You know you have PTSD, when someone tells you during work, you best be advised or you are going to pay and you stare them in the eyes and say,"Make my day."

When the dogs bark at some guy and you decide he must be armed and dangerous.

When you're out jogging and a car driving by slows down or pulls over, and you take off in a full-on sprint, clearing a fence in the process and running full speed all the way home.

When your family says it's ironic that you're taking a psychology course.

When your friends ask how many times you've been hospitalised and you reply, "That depends. The psych ward or the medical hospital?"

When you fall asleep at 2 AM and you're like, "Wow, that was early."

When you can only make friends with people who also have mental health issues.

When you can relate to the majority of all the threads and finally feel like you are on the right planet.

When you can give an honest answer to,"How was your day?" and no one flinches at our site, just responds with, "Me too!".

When you can exchange humor in a PTSD community and they get the joke (not certified intervention in a panic)!

When you finally realize that 'this' is your normal and start labeling your towels instead with His and herPTSD .

When four letters become a badge of I survived.
