ashdawn-my therapist is not into labeling either and I agree. For some people, if you tell them they have a certain disorder, they research it and find doom and gloom. But if you ask for your diagnosis, you have the right to know. There is times when a good T may want to wait until the client is stable. It is the treatment that is important. If you remember the term used-please share as I am very interested. It was not learned helplessness was it?

No it was not learned helplessness. It broke down the stages of healing for sexually assualted and abused women. I emailed her, I am sure she will email me back later today and I will copy and paste it to this thread.

It was a long term just for the symptoms a women experiences after a sexual trauma. Which seemed very similar to ptsd but not quite.

I am grateful for how far we have come in the mental health field. My mother was depressed and drunk and her husband hospitalized her and she was given shock treatments against her will around 1950. I think that really traumatized her. Women were instituionalized for menopause. We have come a long way and need more good people to advocate for mental illness.

Where I live, teen suicide is becoming a norm. It is very sad.

I to have studied all there is to know about the condition. But that is not what I mean when I ask about your refrences with regards to your post. You have made up your mind about PTSD based on what you have read. That is fine. But I have a bit of trouble with they way you proclaim it. You use words such as 'the truth' etc. So I guess what I am asking is: when you say research, is it your oppinion, or the Christian organisations oppinion you are reffering to when you make your claims about PTSD. If so, it is just that. An oppinion, and can not be reffered to as research, even if the oppinion is based on reserach. And yes, it is an important part of your thread.

Thank you, I am very interested. Again, it protects women from abusers by not giving official diagnosis and relating problems directly to recent abuse. It is really important not to re-victimize.

I completely agree. The field of psychology is pretty new compared to the other fields. A lot more research is and needs to be done. Like your moms case, 60 years ago we were treating people with mental disorders inhumane. We still have a long way to go. I try to keep my mind open with psychology stuff. The issues surrounding psychology are the reasons why I decided not to major in it or continue studying it.

Has nothing to do with religion. I do not go around talking about my faith like that. I don't think it does any good.

To explain where my views came would be like writing a thesis for college.

The truth as in the sense of the what the media says.

You do not intend to work in the field of psychology? I am on break from the field due to ptsd and actually specialized in womens issues so I know your passion. I would have guessed you would work in the field when finished. It is not a real concrete field and requires a lot of ability to be creative and blend theories, be open minded, and creative in meeting clients where they are, but I think its pretty stable I think many changes need to be made and am interested in lobbying type of work possibly. It is too much about billing and interferes with patient care. I also have some ideas where normal therapy comes up short.

With the media you have to take caution where you get your information from and the intentions of those sources.

Goes back to my research your research then research it more slogan.

No I don't plan to continue in the psychology field. I am more interested in the sociological approach of things. That is part of the reason it has taking me awhile in school. I kept debating sociology vs psychology, which they aren't mutually exclusive, but with my personality I fit better with a sociological approach. Like everyone has said it's my own opinion and view doesn't mean it is right but it doesn't mean it is wrong either. Same with everyone else's views.

I got too defensive when I first posted and that really affected my ability to back claims up. I am sure you all understand getting defensive and again I apologize. Being defensive has been a habit I have picked up and one I'm continuously working on. (Studying philosophy this semester because I know I need work in that).

That is very interesting brat good for you!!
