@CMan ok, I am NOT a dr or any health care person BUT, if I were you, I might just reconsider taking that med. it's not an anti depressant, it's an anti psychotic, it's not a good drug for men to be on because quite frankly there is a chance of developing gynecomastia, memory issues and a host of other things. Look it up first and then weigh the pros and cons. Every medication has side effects, but that one, in my opinion shouldn't be the first pick. Your not psychotic...... Yes, it can help with anger, but check it out first....

Oh, wow, SheCat! Good info! I've been on antipsychotics, though, and they've really helped me, even though I have no psychotic diagnoses.

@hodge some people it does help but with that one, sometimes it can affect men in ways that would only ADD to their problems by causing another issue for them to deal with. So why bother taking it in the first place. Pisses me off when Drs perscribe it to men KNOWING that there is a chance that gyneacomasti could develope. Just doesn't make sense to me.....

I've also got a couple packets of Pristiq and some other anti-anxiety prescription who's name escapes me right now.. I've heard a lot of terrible things about Risperidone as well, although I'll still give it a shot just in case..

I'm not depressed though, I haven't been depressed in years I just struggle with a host of other symptoms, which is why I'm trying to stay away from anti-depressants although I do understand that anti-depressants have other benefits and also help with anxiety (they're usually used to treat both?).

Oh, wow. I just looked up what you described and, yeah. Eh. Why did he prescribe that? The first med of choice for PTSD as far as I know is Paxil. That's really the only med I know of that has been approved for PTSD. That was the first one I took.

Yes, a lot of the newer antidepressants also have antianxiety qualities. I don't remember having any bad side effects with Pristiq. But every body is different.

Did Pristiq help you?

My main problems include bad reactions to loud sudden sound, anger or rage, paranoia and disconnection (feeling like I'm out of my body, spaced out, dissociation, when it gets bad I can't think clearly at all and I freeze up basically). Nothing feels real, like I'm watching a movie, in 2d.

Does Pristiq help with this?

It may help you. I don't remember it having much effect on me, but, really, every body is different. It may help you a lot. Just gotta try it and see. Wish I had better advice, but I don't. These meds affect everyone differently.
