igasho,

While I respect the fact that you have an opinion........I would like you to explain how someone could possibly FORGET that they were married to a person and had 5 children with them????? Then went out and married someone else, without bothering to get a divorce??????

Its this kind of crap that makes the rest of us look like idiots...how do we get taken seriously when there are people taking advantage of the disorder and claiming they "forgot" they were still married?

And...he is making a mockery of those who fought along side him and are truly suffering...those soldiers who served for their country and are permanently changed because of it. I personally find this to be disgusting.

yes..i am forgetful to a certain extent but....your marriage and children, give me a break! There are alot of things i would like to forget and it is the ptsd that keeps me holding these memories...what a crock!

Hi, dear SheCat,

thanks for your answer. I try my best to explain it. The amnesia can occur if you experience something traumtic of course - it can be a total amnesia or it can only be that you forget parts of your life. Some example: some people find themselves at places and don't know how they got there, they leave their family (I remember one case last year in the media in usa). It is called "dissociative fugue" and it is a part of dissociation. It can also happen out of the blue - if you are not aware that you do have a trauma and something triggered it. It can sleep for years - in my life it took 36 years - and then suddenly come up. Yes, it exists - although I confess it looks completely unimaginable, it can occur. And it is tragic, when it occurs.

Wikipedia has an article on it, the search words are "Fugue_state"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugue_state

Friendly greetings

igasho,

Yes, I have heard of fugue state before, and yes, it is tragic when it happens. But, the article did not mention this at all, and was based purely on PTSD as the *cause of his supposed memory loss*, so this is what I based my opinion on.

This has got to be the most ridiculous excuse ever.....and shame on those for accepting it !

This is an insult to all who suffer with PSTD and their carers !

SheCat, of course I do not know more about the case - that is why i wrote only the person self can know what is true or not. As PTSD is a reaction on a trauma - posttraumatic stress disorder - and fugue state is a reaction on trauma, the dissociation could of course be part of ptsd, yes.

The only thing I am saying is that judging is easy and often misleading. Especially when it comes to mental health issues. I am glad that I am not working in court. Normally in such cases psychiatrists give their meaning there and the judge bases his judgement on this. (At least that is how it is done in germany).

Friendly greetings

igasho,

I really don't want to get into a lengthy discussion about this. I think the issue that you are missing, is NOTHING was stated in the article about fugue state. It stated that PTSD was the cause of his memory loss.

I am also not judging........I am merely stating my opinion, on the FACTS that were stated in the article.

What is causing all this disagreement is not the issue, the issue is the way the verdict is going to be viewed by the general public.

What is that you ask? That we are all----idiots and slackers and will use this questionable "illness" when it is to our advantage. It makes a public joke of us.

It now puts this serious, destructive, cruel and painful condition in question.

I for one am pissed. I have it. It is real. Now some idiot has decided to "USE"
it and in the process discredited all of us.

JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION

People will believe what they want to believe. You can't force your experiences and your reality on anyone who refuses it.

PTSD is not the only thing that people have manipulated to discredit it. Look at women who lied about being raped - what a disservice they've done to the millions of women around the world who have been raped/murdered/abused by spouses and/or strangers.

Those who take the time to actually think will realize that the guy is a sham. As for the rest of them, anger and outrage won't do a thing to change or sway their minds. There are also many many people out there that deny not only mental illness, but the many traumas that people go through to end up with it.

Don't worry about the critics, worry about yourself.
