hello first of all, im having difficulties finding info out and its driving me nuts. i have a claim in for ptsd was favorable and i got 10percent and told in a yr they will reevalute because iwas unstable...well im stable now, problem is im being medically released now and l still am not sure what my final award is going to be, bugs me for 2reasons 1.i feel like an ass worrying about money etc id rther take back last 3 years 2. im finding out schools expensive. i know its case by case but is there an average ptsd claim out there? ive had no problems w vac so far but this whole 10 to 100 percent question mark is driving me insane i think thats just human nature tho....anyway

Mate, I reckon it would be a good idea to post and introduction in the introduction area. You don't have to give too much detail, just where you live and where you served. It just gives the guys on here who are from all over the globe an idea, and will also aid them in guiding you to the right info.

Hey Cdn, there really is no "average", each claim is unique. 10% is low, but you will likely see that increase at the reevaluation. Where are you based out of? Do you have a case manager? You should qualify for the Rehab Program. Ask your Case Manager about it. They will pay for your re-education and top up any pensions to 70% till you graduate. Also, if you are being Medically Released, SISIP has many programs for you. You payed for that insurance by Pay-Roll deduction while you were in, might as well use it.

hey zipperhead, im in borden right now I got diagnosed, then OT'd thinking I could sorta run away from my diagnosis which was a bad idea...I went in to talk to VAC and they will pay for a 2 year program up to a certain portion, on thursday I spoke with them again and it may be possible to pay for 2 years then have them pay the final 2 but that's not even guaranteed. eitherway the wait is killing me im hoping for 60 percent + so the transition is smooth and I can get a education thats decent.

If you are being Medically released, SISIP owes you too. You have paid into those thieving bastards your entire career. Don't let them off the hook.

60% is a big pay out. I wouldn't hold my breath. I got 43%, which seems to be about average. Still the rehab program is a BIG help. It tops you up to 70% of your former wage till you graduate. My problem right now is that they don't think I'm ready to go back to school. So I'm stuck in limbo till they think therapy has done it's job. I guess it makes sense not to waste money if I'm not going to graduate anyways, but sitting here is not helping me mentally either.

Still, the 2 years don't start till I start the re-education, so I still get 70% till I'm done, not just for 2 years. When is your March Out?

no march out date here im told 12-18 months I have left here. I am with OSISS right now its fairly lacking once a month he comes down and no one goes but myself and a few others. Im hoping it will be big...I drove my car head on into a tree it seemed like a good idea at the time but now im down a car and drs still wont let me drive...the thing that bugs me is the medical side of things apoligised to me and said I fell through the cracks and my file got lost etc I didn't even know what a case manager was 2 yrs into after I was diagnosed or that veterans affairs did stuff for ptsd as there was no VAC offices on my base at the time or anyone working there. Im hoping they factor in those things cause id like to invest in my future then just getting my car back. SO that being said for the next 12-18 months I will be living in my single quarters alphabetizing paper work, counting down days until my next VAC meeting. Sorry didnt mean to turn that into a bitch fest, im actually doing alot better these days and about to head to the gym.

anytime you need to get it off of your chest let it fly...enjoy the gym. I am going to venture out of the house for a bike ride today, hopefully I will feel a little less wound up...I feel the beast knocking at my door today.

Don't think VAC is in the Car Insurence Business. Still, they are a big help. If you are without liscence, you may qualify for the VIP program, in which they will pay some expenses attributed to your medical condition. As you have no liscence due to your PTSD, they may cover travel costs to some degree. Worth checking out. If nothing else, they may pay for a bus pass.

that's right their not zip, but that's how far I degraded because of "falling through" the cracks of the medical side of things, I guess it can fall under pain and suffering? lol anyway I can drive now my dr says but I gotta go through a med board review from the province etc my drs writing me a letter...im on the bright side now of a looong dark tunnel i was in. That being said im crossing my fingers for a 60 percent! after all going to school to be a astronaught is expensive:P did you appeal your decision at all zip?

Appeal, well, not sure I'm really ready for the fight. Having people asking me to justify why I deserve more. No, don't see that happening in the near future. They are looking after me right now. Guess I'm just happy to be getting what I am after dealing with the Military Medical System for so long. I wasn't medically released. I wasn't aloud to see a Doctor before I released. 20 years and kicked to the curb. I was recommended for Anger Management 3 times by 42 Health Services, but never screened for PTSD. After dealing with that, VAC seemed to be on my side. I got 2 settlements, one for the injuries from the IED, the other for the PTSD. Both were rated at 43%. I'm not in a wheel chair, so there are worse off then me.

It's an interesting question. Why don't I appeal. I think the people came up with this new compensation thing really do understand the PTSD thing. Give them a small candy and make them fight for more. Most people in our shoes won't do the paper work. Ask us to justify ourselves, and we stand and stamer. Saves the Tax Payer Millions.

my dr told me to appeal appeal appeal no matter what and compared vac to a insurance co, it makes sense anyway it is paid for anyway the lawyers etc most people I know appealed for other injuries
