Has anyone tried this med and what are your thoughts on it?
I've read some very interesting research on it and it was recomended to me by mental health today, (as well as cognitive processing therapy), I just wanted to see if its helped anyone.

I know that it's mainly a blood pressure med but that it has had some pretty good effects for PTSD.

Thanks,

Robert

I am on Catapres which is an Alpha Blocker as well. I take 100mg three times a day and it works wonders for my anxiety. And usually by 3 pm I can tell if I forgot to take it.

I actually hate taking medication because I used to have an addiction to any pill that gave me a buzz. But while it works for me I will take it. I am steering away from the benzo's. They work for some people and I have some in the cupboard for absolute emergencies, but apart from that, no way.

Personal choice though and they work for some people.

I'll give it a shot Jimmy, I hate taking meds too. And the ones that give me a buzz can be a hazzard for me. When my father died a friend wrote me a script for Ativan, 100 1mg tabs, with a refill. Needless to say I was very calm during the whole process of my father's death. But they can be wayyyyyy to tempting, more so after a few drinks. (But you do get a few hours of oblivion out of it)

I meet with the drug doc in 5 days, need something for the sleep the 100 mg of trazadone isn't working.

Thanks Jimmy

Mate do some research on Valdoxan. I take that at around 6.30 pm. By the time I am ready for bed I take a 30 mg soltab of Avanza( Mirtazapine I think), works a trick. It has to be the soltab and no more than 30 mg. Try it.

The Valdoxan is a relatively new drug and it is meant to start fixing your sleep cycle. It works for me.

Not something I have taken but a common med used to treat nightmares in children and adults with PTSD. I also shows promise in alcohol dependence issues. Blocks norepinephrine at alpah1.

It was prescribed for me but I did not take it because of some other suspect norepinephrine issues I am looking into.

I'd give it a shot but its not available in the US. We'll see how cheap the Navy is in getting me meds. They like to use the cheap ones first and for a long time before they use anythinexpensive.

If I get to Australia I'll have to get some and give it a shot.

I'll give it a shot if the Navy has it, you know how cheap the military can be.

Docrobert, you can get Prazosin in the US, it also goes by the name minipress. I have been on it for about 1 year now. It not a fancy drug it was intended to be for blood pressure, however they find it quiets the nightmare a bit. Some people cannot take it due the blood pressure problams. good luck

Thanks Marc, I'll give it a shot, if it helps with the anxity or waking up covered in sweat I'll take it. I'm checking with a Pharmacy tech tonight if they carry it here in Yokosuka.

It helped for the time. My best defense for my nightmares is my service dog honey. She wakes me up before the terror begins, truly amazing and natural. I never have liked pills, they have there use for short term. I still take them for anxity, sleep and depression but in smaller quanitys. I encourage others to find natural ways to cope. my life has changed greatly and I have only had the dog for one week.
