Hi,

I am getting a bit sick of the current drug routine and the pains in the liver, night sweats, loss of sexual desire, dry mouth, shit life, shit outlook on life, suicidal thoughts etc etc...

So I am going to do a HGH cycle because I figure I really have nothing to loose as I want to put some size on anyway - there has been some trials done in the US and talking to Body Builders it has been given the "good mood" tick. It can make you sleep like a baby and feel great as well as the restorative affects on the organs. Now that is the basic facts, but these are the scientific and medical that I am interested in.

The amygdala goes into overdrive..

Adrenaline is often in overdrive being released in waves through the body.

The hippocampus has been found to be shrunk or in a period of shrinking - Depression has this as well, damage is done and the hippocampus reduces in size. Therapy and drugs (anti depressant) will restore the size of the hippocampus.

Many years ago when i was about 12 I stole my brothers bike to ride down the street for something, I was hit by a car and blacked out. Lucky it as right in front of the Ambulance station, I was out of the hospital the next day but did not tell the doctor that I had an injury to my left testicle. Not major, still functions but is small (yes I know it is in most men but I mean small like half the size). So this coupled with my military experience that really kicked the PTSD and chronic depression. So again having the HGH may actually help in this regard - Yes I am pinning my hopes on this being a cure all but to tell the truth I do not like what the anti-depression drugs are doing to me both physically and mentally.

Does anybody have any experience with HGH and their PTSD / Depression?

First, self medicating is just not a good route to go. If you don't like the drugs you're taking talk to your doctor. If the doctor sucks, get another one.

As far as HGH is concerned, look to some of the case studies that have been done. It's worse than taking steroids. You're messing with your entire body system.

The other thing is; there is NO CURE FOR PTSD. You can learn to live with it, get the right meds to help when you need it but it will always be what it is. And anything that's going to mess with your brain isn't good. And the one thing that happens to bodybuilders that take HGH is they get big muscles for a while and then their balls shrivel up to the size of peanuts. Do yourself a favor and don't. No miracle cures out there man. You'll get more out of going to therapy, eat right, exercise, find some things you like to do and do them. Create a totally new life for yourself.

I'm with Jar on this one, if you're going to go this route then please do so under the dedicated care and direction of a medical provider.

But, in a similar vein, have you had your testosterone levels checked? Something to think about, definitely a trend in TBI and PTSD.

Had the testosterone checked about a year back, they never find anything wrong with it.. damn them.. lol

I found I was going through about a six week cycle, which is a normal man cycle - yes some guys get a massive spike of Testosterone and then a lower dose over a six week period. So I can go from totally depressed, you know the times you turn the kettle on to make a coffee but then don't have the motivation to actually make the thing.. To totally on duty, YES SIR - example I started work yesterday at 2pm and finished today at 1pm in the afternoon. Shit forgot the audience I am writing too..
started @ 1400 and finished at 1300 and feel great.

Been tackling this beast for a number of years, refuse to give up... I will be a happy mofo again one day!!

Koala,

I know your a fellow Aussie, but I can't remember your age. It has a lot to do with it.

I am glad you are a happy camper using HGH, but I am a bit of an expert on this having gone through hormone shots with my doctor.
As we get older our hormone levels and testosterone levels will fluctuate. A teenager for instance has their levels through the roof, that is why if you want to get huge muscle wise, the best time to start pumping iron is at 16.

Now with us, we the brethren with PTSD. Where do I start.

Our testosterone levels fluctuate all the time depending on our weight, our mood, and our age. It's natural for men in their 40's to develop the good old 'Man Boobs', because our testosterone levels have reduced. This is why you see a lot of the body builders on estrogen blockers and testosterone boosters, you can even get monthly shots from your doc, but in the end, a healthy diet, and exercise works.

Once you start playing around with HGH at too higher doses, you can feel good and build big muscles, but you also run the risk of things such as 'roid rage' which can be amplified with PTSD.

Hi,

I am getting a bit sick of the current drug routine and the pains in the liver, night sweats, loss of sexual desire, dry mouth, shit life, shit outlook on life, suicidal thoughts etc etc...

We all get sick of the drug routine mate, and some of them can stop working, so you try another. The loss of sexual desire has a lot to do with the state of mind too, trust me. Otherwise how do you explain blokes with PTSD wanting to do anything that is female with a pulse. Once your in a comfortable relationship, your sex drive can diminish, why, because our sick minds think about other shit, and think the partner will stay around. I will leave that for another episode.

Do you remember an infantryman by the name of 'Troy Reid'? Killed that kid, left 57 bruises, internal injuries, scalp laceration, etc, well I served in Iraq with him, he was our Clerk. Well guess what, he was on HGH, and would not hurt a fly when I first met him.

Each to their own in the end mate. But be careful and discuss with your doctor. Be very careful also if you are removing the medication out of your life, because if anything happens and a report goes into DVA, you can lose everything.

Just saying.

Okay so, this is what I have been playing with..
Have been on Cymbalta 120mg and Avanza 30mg for two years and they have helped but I often fight the symptoms by downing energy drinks and caffeine to pep me up and lift me from the numb..

I started to fall back into my old thought patterns

  • Hate life, this is shit and I should just end it.
  • F the world, nobody understands me
  • I am alone in the world and nobody understands me
So I took some measures into my own hands.

On a recent trip I picked up some supplies (1 box of Testosterone Ethanate) the type used in Hormone Replacement Therapy. Now before you all switch off and think I am completely nuts, I have researched steroids and their like for the last 20 years, I know their function, limits and how to use them safely.
This particular box was 250mg of Test per 1ml vial.
Dosage is 1ml per fortnight.

So first dose I started on a short 0.5 ml dose and within two days was feeling good, the next dose was 1ml and I felt nice. By the 3 dose of 1ml I had cut back to the following on my other drugs.

  • Cymbalta down to 1 x 60mg every other day
  • The Cymbalta is harder to come off, bad headaches and feeling really sick, physically hence why the 60mg every other day, you should never ever go cold turkey on this beast of a drug.
  • Avanza down to half a tablet when needed
I feel good, yes I still go down a little but not black like I use to be. I am also starting to enjoy life a little, as in looking for things to do and getting back into society. Hell I even found a nice whiskey bar and go there for one beer or scotch at least once a week.

Koala,

Just saying.

Thanks Jimmy,

I build muscle easy without drugs, so not looking for any shortcuts and are always careful with the dosages not to kill my liver / kidneys or any other. I am normally a very placid lad, well I was before the PTSD kicked in, but once before the army I used Deca and a guy brushed against me while I was walking down the street, I turned ready to fight. Nothing came of it but I cycled off Deca from that day on and never ever used again.

The Test cycles, in men we normally have a 6 week test cycle. Most men go a little high and then a little low, others hit the roof and then the floor. I am the later, hence I can feel awesome one week and then absolutely worthless for the next 11 weeks (one peek per cycle). Honestly I think this is what happens to bipolar (no offence intended and I maybe well and truly simplifying the condition) but with a shot of Test you can be a totally different person without being aggressive, but you can be confident which alleviates some of the nervousness which leads to anxiety.

Totally agree, it is a dangerous road but I need to live again, instead of hiding.

:ROFLMAO:Koala,

My testosterone was low also. My Dr. prescribed the T replacement gel. I am surprised at the results so far:
I have lost 10 pounds in two months, I seem to be sleeping better, my mood has improved, as well as my sex life.
It seems like things are actually getting better.

My panic attacks have decreased to about 1 or 2 a month, and I no longer dread trying to sleep.
Funny thing with the T gel is that it gradually increases the T level, not like shots or pills.

I wonder if there is a correlation between PTSD and low T?

Koala, I believe moderation is the key, and be sure to continue your workoutsand increase your cardio on your off cycle.

Glad you are improving. Keep me posted to your results....

Zenmaster wrote: I wonder if there is a correlation between PTSD and low T?

The answer is YES.....Sorry I can't find the web page I found a few years ago. It had a long list of Symptoms for low T.
A lot of the ones I remember where the same for GAD/Panic/Thinking/Memory....Damn I wish I had that link.....If you do a search on low T, you will know if you find the one I did, as it was almost a full page listing all the Symptoms. Most other sites did not list as much as the one I found. Sorry I can't offer more help.....

NOTE: If you are taking T, make sure your Doc does a CBC every few months. You need to check you Red Cell Blood count. (Hemoglobin, Ref Range 14.5-17.7g/dl) If you are getting to much T, it can raise it, NOT GOOD. For us older guys, 50+, we really need to keep an eye on it....Why I know all this; I have a blood disorder called Polycythemia. I have been taking T shots, (the wife sticks me in the ass, I think she likes it:D) since 2007. When the Doc found the Polycythemia, he cut down on my T. Since I am an old man we keep my T level at around 250. (Was 500-600) The T did not give me the blood disorder, but to much T will increase my Hemoglobin faster, so I have to have a blood draw sooner.
Need to know more just ask.......

The last time I went to the VA, they prescribed me Trazodone, paxil, and tegretol, for my ptsd. The first few weeks I slept alot, couldn't function. I don't want that again. Im not sure if it was the meds, but i wanted to consume alcohol even more. I know that self medicating with alcohol does not help ptsd, makes it worse and negates the effects of the medication. I am a Gulf war vet. I have alot more issues than just ptsd. I chronic joint pain every day. My left arm and shoulder seems to be loosing some of the range of motion, my knees, ankles, and elbows also. I recently learned that the US federal government has ok'ed the triple blind study of using medical marijuana to treat vets with ptsd and gws. I haven't waited for government approval to use "weed". I can honestly say that I have used marijuana when I start getting that knot in my stomach that always precedes a bad episode of ptsd, or when the pain in my joints and and my leg cramps get really bad. I have to say that this helps with the pain, anger, and anxiety more than anything I have ever used, and it works immediately. I am not a stoner, a pot head or anything like that. I use it when I need it. It works for me. The only problem is that it's illegal and can be hard to get sometimes. Has anyone else on here used the "maryjane" to treat themselves? I would like to hear some input on this subject. Thanks

Okay time for an update..

So I was playing around with Testosterone Cyponate, this and enthanate are used for TRT, testosterone replacement therapy. Four weeks after starting at 200mg / week I dropped both my cymbalta and avanza. I have not been on those for two drugs or any other anti-depressent for over 12 months now...

In that 12 months, Yes that is 1 YEAR... <I need you to think about this 1 YEAR as you read the below stats)

The good.
Back in the gym and fit 109kg (240 pounds) down to 90kg (198 pounds) at 8% body fat
New girlfriend for last 8 months that I am moving in with and maybe starting a new family
New lease on life, hiking and can go shopping without being triggered.
When I have my daughter every second weekend I actually get out of bed and we do things - beach, gym, hiking etc.

The bad.
Triggers have gone from an average of 3 per week to 0.2 per week meaning I may have one a month now
Nightmares 4-6 nights a week have reduced to roughly 30 nightmares during the 12 months
Depressive dives (talking black, house closed up, don't want to talk see anybody, cannot function) have gone from maybe one a fortnight to 2 depressive dives in the year.

Would I call it a success, hell YES... maybe not for everybody but let's just say this.. I will never ever use anti-depressants again, they very nearly killed me.
