Do you know grounding techniques like mindfulness and things like that? DBT is another great bunch of stuff that can help. I am doing a Workbook right now on PTSD, it is called OVERCOMING TRAUMA AND PTSD by Sheela Raja PhD and there are things in it that you can do while in triggering situations. Check it out. I bought it on amazon.com for not a lot of money.

Thank you all for your support in all this. I have always known that someday I would have to face those demons of the past, I just did not expect it to be like this and under these circumstances.

@SheilaKathy I do have some grounding techniques but it can't hurt to look up others.

@Mal Content Thank you. I know I will get through this. I am just very much afraid. Logic says one thing, emotions say something quite different.

I love both of my parents very much. They aren't perfect but they've been constant. I had a terrible experience and rational thought says this is their story, not mine. @ladee I do need to stay in the 'here and now' not 'there and then'. It's going to be a long grueling time and realistically, there are going to be panic days where I'm going to need to reach out. I'm not good at that, but I've never been faced with something like this before.

I have some time before it actually happens so hopefully I'll be able to put together some type of plan with my Therapist before things actually get going.

Yes it is and I am glad you are going to have a plan with your therapist for that process in the hospital. I hope that it is easier for you than you imagine right now. I hope by the time you go there, you will be fully prepared for pretty much anything that could distress you. Hugs and prayers for you and yours.
