Has anyone applied for disability while still working?

How did that process work?

Were there issues and/or denial because you were working?

****edited to add: I am in the United States.

An extra question:

My T is going to do a battery of testing to submit to the disability office.

Has anyone done this? What was your experience like?

You have to be 60% disabled according to a PHd psychologist or an MD. So don't work over 40%. Then if they fire you it's "I couldn't perform my job because of my disability." Good luck.

So how do you work out what working 40% would be? Like my attendance is terrible because of my issues, and I have a hard time staying all day. But the work itself, I’m fully capable of. But I’ve never kept a job longer then a year and that was only one job that I made it that far.

You don't, the doctor or psychologist signs a paper. That's it. Just keep saying I can't do this or that because of my disability. I worked with a girl in a hotel. She was a server and they made her carry 5 dinner plates. She started wearing one of those wrist things and said she couldn't do it. Then she was gone and they told me she got it. The lawyers and doctors do it. Just go to your pdoc and say "I can't work because of this I need you to put me on disability." My pdoc would do this for me because of my arthritis if I asked her. It's my health. I can't use my hands for repeating manual tasks anymore the pain would be incredible.

Yep. I was still working when I started the process to apply for the disability package sponsored by my agency. I had to be off 90 days before it kicked in - luckily I had enough sick leave to cover it. It was a humiliating cluster because I had to talk about why I was applying...but people were really nice. My recommendation came from my shrink directly to the insurance company.

If you are going for SSD buckle in..it's a huge pain in the ass and will take about a year to get. I just got my first denial...they only approve 33% the first time thru. You do get back pay if it gets approved. I don't want to discourage you....I was just shocked at what a bitch it has been. They denied me because they said I can find a job that brings home $1200 a month even with the disabilities.

I'm using a company to process it all so that's been helpful -- so now they are doing the denial fight for me.

Ya I know they pretty much always deny the first time around, kinda a part of their weeding process. ExH had it for awhile and we used a company and managed to get approved within a few months of pushing but that was so long ago now so I can’t remember everything with it and he wasn’t working at the time.

I’m just worried that they’re gonna be like ya no you are obviously working so of course you don’t need it. But I really can’t afford to quit. But that’s good to know about the 90 days, I can gather up some savings for it.

I’m really hoping that I can get it so that I can 1. get out of this job and 2. use it to get housing. I’m thinking if I get put on disability I should be able to be approved for HUD. They’re apps are open at the moment so I’m trying to decide when to jump on it.
