Therapist suggested DBT yet she doesn't know it....is that professional? Also I know things could be worse.....and that I'm lucky I don't have dementia etc but is it normal for therapist to compare to other clients? She also gets frustrated because I don't communicate well in person...so she said email so I did then she said I can't email...it's too much that she can't assess through email.....

I'm a confused and irritated I've done best to express how much struggling but it's going over her head she understands I'm in pain but that's about it. I can't even pay bills next month fighting has been obsolete it doesn't matter anymore.
A therapist might suggest some other therapies even without knowing about then but i wouldn't . You are an individual with your problems these are yours and cannot be compared with others and shouldn't be we are all different and cope in different ways some more than others. You need one to one therapy . Write down your thoughts or feelings . This helps in two ways you can express easier when you don't feel pressured and also when in therapy you wont blank . Have you ever been for a job interview where you got angry afterwards because you were nervous and all the things you meant to say got side-tracked well this is different but the rules are the same. If this therapist is not for you then change them . You don't need confusion you need help and support . Tell her its confusing to be told one thing then another . She is supposed to be the professional you the patient . Good luck and take care of yourself. PS your notes would direct then its possible the rest would come automatic once you commenced dialogue

To add please note - DBT is a more specific form of CBT that focuses on helping people who tend to have extreme emotional reactions interact with the environment around them in a less emotional, healthier way try this link =4 Differences Between CBT and DBT and How to Tell Which is Right for You | Skyland Trail

Around here it’s exceptionally common to be recommended something that professional doesn’t do, themselves. Whether it’s a surgery that doctor doesn’t perform much less specialize in, or a therapy that therapist doesn’t practice/isn’t certified in. What one does, at that point, is seek out a heart surgeon or DBT therapist.

Not possessing the skills themselves doesn’t prevent someone from recognizing their patient could benefit from something others do specialize in.
