So went to Drs today appt 815am was hell going sat there till 850am anxiety was getting worse a lot of people noises etc... I never got called back or anything even though checked in with person. I ended up just leaving because started to feel anxoety attack. Im so over it all! Took everything to get self to go on first place.
Hey hey! Way to go! Great start! :D
Bad luck the appointment time didn’t work out, but look at what YOU did:
- You made the appointment
- You went
- You checked in
- You managed to wait for a over half an hour
- You monitored & managed your stress & symptoms as they came on
If you weren’t in a health crisis, and needing to see a doctor? (Rather than a well-appointment) it would be a raging victory, getting yourself that far along through the process before needing to regroup. A lot of the time each one of those steps would have to be added on slowly, and you did ALL of them! That’s really, really good!
Since you DO need to see a doctor (or nurse practitioner), you can take the lessons you learned today into your next appointment, yes?
- Like knowing the time in the waiting room is going to be too much pressure, so asking the receptionist when you check in to text you when the nurse is ready to bring you back, if the wait is going to be more than a few minutes (for certain suspected illnesses they don’t even have you come check in, in person, but call them once you’re there & wait out in your car for the nurse to clear you to come back, or the doctor to come out)
- or talking with the scheduler before that, when you make the appointment, about the anxiety issue and having them schedule you at start or end of business, so the waiting room is nearly empty, or wait back by the lab instead of the waiting room, or meet you with a single dose antianxiety med during vitals. Different offices have different policy solutions, but nearly all of them have patients with anxiety who need help in some manner. Asking what they prefer to do with patients who have severe anxiety and panic attacks about seeing the doctor, or waiting rooms, etc. can be a great way to get that conversation started.
