How do I show them I'm essential?

There should be a government number you can contact to confirm that you are an essential business. I'm not sure what it is for the US, though.

We just got a stay at home issue ordered today. Got a text on our phones too, really weird. With the blaring alarm and all. My business falls under what's considered essential, but I don't have letters or paperwork because my business is just me so I don't really know what to do. I only have one client left, so no income if I don't go. (USA, eastern seaboard) I'm worried about being stopped by police or something. How do I show them I'm essential?

i think essential businesses sent info to the US government (in the US anyway). The President must of tasked the US department of Homeland Security to give essential business letters as they are seeming to be specific to need.

i would google maybe essential business cornovirus us governement. Or report essential business to the US governement. It seems if you put cornovirus in there, many unrelated reports and media comes up.

Not 100% sure as that's well above my pay grade but there had to have been a place that essential businesses reported themself as such to get a letter from The US Department of Homeland Security that's specific to what the business does and the needs of the workers.

I can google for you and see if I can find something.

Maybe register via your State?

^^ But seems something like that. Search with your state in there. The President seems to be in contact with the governors so I think each governor would of given the President a list with specifics. My thinking of how that works anyway.

It took three days to get through this thread. I wanted to respond in the middle many times but I persevered because I didn't want to be out of date. I'm glad I waited because most comments would be stupid now.

The one thing I will quibble with was someone complained about people mowing their lawn. Being out in the garden has been recommended, at least where I am. Physical distance from people and quarantine while ill do not mean you have to be literally locked in your house. It means you need to not be exposed to other people.

I am a couple of days away from the end of my 14 day quarantine. I don't think I had covid-19, but I sure felt like dog dirt.

Thank you to the medical providers who are putting their bodies between patients and this disease. I'm sorry for the folks in other industries who both have to work and get yelled at for doing so at the same time.

I think it is odd reading "people are terrible for stockpiling" and "get as much medication as you can" in one thread. "Get only enough food for the next few days" next to "why don't you stay home".

We are all doing the best we can. I am grateful for the privilege in my life that lets me stay home and have enough food. As bad as most of the world has it right now, I'm super worried about India. This is going to be a horrifyingly bad year.

Compliant and staying at home. Only went out one time for a doc appointment and to get gas and use the ATM. Have another order for physical therapy so I have to go into Lex twice a week. Only going grocery shopping one time a week from here on in... and that's cuz of needing fresh produce. Hate to see if this is really gonna have to go all the way to the 30th of April. Visited while waiting with several people in both places and most every one said, "I'm so glad to visit, there's no reason to talk to one another even with social distancing." Seemed to be a relief for most to hear some pleasantries for a change.

Was really pleased to see a crowd funding set up by Dead Link Removed to get the necessary PPE for medical staff, happy to donate to it an all. At first they aimed to get £200000 but people keep giving, now up to £1,165,710 and climbing. I only got to read about it though cause a famous actor donated £275000.

But Adern has been pressuring Morrison about the issue for a while now, and SBS is reporting that the latest payment, which is the $1500 fortnightly subsidy (seperate to the Centrelink support payments), will apply to NZers.

Out of curiosity? Are... Closely allied nation (& citizenry, with Kiwis “stuck” in Aus because of school, work, & living with/visiting Aussie family); it’s easy enough to track & bill NZ for later; &/or keeping minimum standards where they belong / basic human rights / preventing a rash of desperate people from doing predictably desperate things... any part of the rationale behind this? Because if so? That’s more sense, decency, and farsightedness that I would have ascribed to any Govt.... Ever.

No idea what the political fallout for such a thing would be, and my motives could be completely f*cking wrong, but the effect on people’s lives?
