News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

I guess they consider a certain death rate from covid19 as acceptable?

The majority of those doesn't actually believe in any death rate. The "it's just a flu" and "you're more likely to die from a car accident" narrative is still VERY strong.

They don't understand that in some areas, the incident, let alone death rate, is really low because the f*cking measures are f*cking working.

And New York and Italy are faaaaaaaaaar away.

They really have done an amazing job with that reporting and the public health website has much more information. I hope other states follow suit on that.
This information has been available on a national level for a long time. The problem isn't that the US data's not out there - the problem is that people would rather tag along with the loudest voice, rather than look for themselves.

I've recommended this site earlier in the thread, but here it is again. The amount of data is almost daunting - but after one plays around with the different ways to view the graphs, it becomes readable. You just have to take a little time to understand it. It's worldwide, but can be broken out by US state.

Also, that page will get you to an additional page where you can quickly search out cases by every county in the US along with percent of growth rate in confirmed cases, and number of deaths.

The guy who made it has been tending it since March 21st. He lays out his motivations very clearly, and there's no spin there. Just data.

The fines in different places are really interesting.

^I guess they represent the overall views that the people & government hold about breaking the physical/social distancing rules.

In Perth a male was recently sent to prison because he repeatedly broke quarantine after he arrived back from o/seas.

In Queensland the penalty for spitting on people is now at $5,000 - which personally I think is fair. It's disgusting and now very dangerous behaviour.

I'm so old I can recall when various subterranian walkways to train platforms had big black stenciled letters printed on them saying 'no spitting'. I think they were just left there from the days when TB wasn't controlled. I guess they'll be putting the signs back up?

The majority of those doesn't actually believe in any death rate. T

^I get that but what I don't understand is where do they think all of these people have gone and why would they think a flu would be any less dangerous? Call it covid19 or influenza - when you're dead does it matter?? ...sigh.. people are so confusing...

This is why I would love it if each State did this, or maybe referred to the site you posted (which is awesome by the way) but actually refer to it. Like, Florida made this known, from the start. It's blasted over and over. All the local news channels referring to it. The governor referring to it. And each county reps referring to it. You can't watch anything local without it being referred. Thus, the loudest voice. What im saying is make it a loud voice. Each site like this that is well attended to, refer to it, loudly. Cause, you're right. Many people are followers rather then looking for themselves. So be loud about it (speaking about local governments).

My son's test is negative for CV19 and he will be released today back.to barracks. Thank goodness. I expected that because he said nobody is sick on base that he knows of. But I always hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I'm going in my grocery store iny town which is a small little place and I have to take a deep breath and be sure I'm on my best behavior.

That's really good to hear! So glad your son is in the clear!

I'm glad for your family. I hope you all stay safe.

heres a world effect of covid- oil is below zero dollars per barrel on the market at opening this morning. does this mean that if I bought a tanker, I could get it filled AND get enough money to throw a party that night?

I am not a market analyst (I looked at what was happening and pulled everything off the market if thats analasys) but I get the STRONG feeling that no one knows what that will do to our fragile economy in the long run. The whole thing started with the OPEC nations dumping on the market, in what I assumed was an attempt to lower the cost and shut down some US production. Was it just bad timing that COVID came along and all the cars got parked at the same time?

Give it a couple of days and they might pay you to take it off their hands. :sneaky:
Another party!
This makes no sense to me and I don't understand negative interest either. How can something that is obviously worth something (oil, money) be worth less than nothing? I can think of a commodity that I pay to get rid of, but I wouldn't put cash or oil in the same category. If only they were truly similar in value-all pipelines would start in DC!

Ah, in Altamonte Springs, Fl (the town I live in) has a new drive up testing site. Free, no insurence needed, no symptoms needed, just a DL/State ID and that's it.

I'm not gonna get tested right now. Cause I only leave for food and medications and thats only been once in the last month and a half. Since working from home now, don't see the need to be tested. If I haven't been by the time I go back into the office, I may go ahead and get tested before going back. From what I hear, thats LONG from now though.

My company hasn't given us a timeframe of coming back into the office yet but they set us up to work from home forever. So, Im cozy. Missing people badly but cozy and been working from home without a hitch yet!
